I graduated from university with honors and the highest departmental distinction. While at the university I served as a teaching assistant and tutored other students. As an engineer, I use calculus on a daily basis to solve problems, and this includes multi-variable and vector calculus. Taking a calculus course and knowing the steps to solve a derivative or integral is one thing, but applying calculus concepts to problems in engineering and physics (i.e. biomechanics or fluid mechanics) is the true mark of understanding calculus - something I've learned how to do over many years of applying what I learned in my calculus courses. Sure, calculus can be a challenging subject at times, but with a focus on geometric representations, attaining a solid understanding of the concepts is well within reach, and that is the way I approach the subject with my students. For example, I don't just show you how to analytically solve an integral, I show you what an integral is, and what the solution means. When you understand calculus on this level, you'll be able to work through any of the curve ball questions your teacher might throw in on an exam.

Hello, my name is Alec! I tutor high school and college-level math courses that include Calculus 1(AB), Calculus 2(BC), AP Calculus, Precalculus, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Intermediate Algebra, etc. I love tutoring because it gives me an outlet to use my skills to help others! I have been teaching math to students of all ages since 2005. I believe that many people struggle in math because they need things explained in a slightly different way, or because they are missing one key skill. Over the years I've learned how to address this efficiently in a way that has led to my students continued success!

Sometimes calculus looks scary. It usually happens when things that we are doing are too abstract for us. I help by connecting calculus to real life and helping my students to understand why we are solving this problem this way and probably invent their own way to solve problems. It's not only helping to improve the grades but also helps with confidence.
