I've been teaching math for 7 years and my students have gone on to develop a stronger connection with the subject after their time with me. Within the first few sessions, you'll be able to fully understand the concept you're working on and as time goes on you'll develop skills for problem solving that make all topic easier. I specialize in 5th through 12th grade, and am familiar with several curriculums and textbooks, including Illustrative Math, CME, Pearson EnVision, and Bridges. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!
MUSIC LESSONS: Whether I am playing salsa, solo classical piano, in a jazz ensemble, or a concert band, I am ALWAYS having fun doing what I love, and I want you to have the same experience. After moving to Philadelphia ten years ago to study at Temple University, where I received my Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance, I have had many great opportunities to play all types of music with all types of people. While my passions are in jazz music, composing, and arranging, my varied experience helps me pass on the fundamentals necessary to becoming a great musician while also adapting to your goals, needs, and musical preferences.
*** Lesson Details *** I aim for students to leave each lesson eager to practice and explore, and to come back with questions and stories of their progress. To that end, I work hard to tailor lessons to every
individuals interests and goals. Sometimes this means arranging, transcribing a recording, or even composing something new for my students. Additionally, in each lesson, I balance technical skills, ear training, and music theory to assure that each student walks away a complete musician, all structured around your musical goals.
*** Travel Equipment *** The student must provide their own instrument and assigned method books. I will provide a music stand if necessary, and other useful instructional tools (metronome, tuner, etc.)
*** Home Studio *** I offer lessons in my home located within walking distance of Broad Street in South Philadelphia, near the Tasker-Morris subway stop. I am equipped with a well-playing upright piano and plenty of space for musical activities. There is ample street parking in the area during the afternoon and early evening, and our living room is available to parents while students take their lesson. Students who travel to me for lessons gain all the benefits of performing on a piano, rather than an electric keyboard, and have access to many more resources that I am able to offer from my home, such as recordings and method books.
*** Specialties *** I specialize teaching "late starters" (teens and adults new to piano) fundamentals in music in a fun and exciting way that will have you playing the music you love quickly.
For brass instruments, I am able to help brand new beginners build up their sound and facility through simple exercises that will have them astounded by their progress.
MATH: I use my years of classroom teaching and Master's degree in math education as experience to help guide you to the success you are seeking. I am able to tailor sessions to your specific needs with a few key points in mind:
- helping you catch-up, while also preparing you for what is ahead - balancing practice with conceptual knowledge and application - using research-based techniques to maximize your learning
I am a patient teacher, and well-equipped to explain tough topics in multiple ways. I like to use visuals and objects with simple examples to help my students really understand a concept before we try harder material. Total understanding and confidence is my goal for you.
My personal interests in mathematics are problem solving, puzzles, and combinatorics (think "How many different outfits can I make with all the clothes in my closet?"). If you're looking for an addicting puzzle to try, I suggest KenKen to all my students.
As an bioengineer, calculus is the bedrock of much of the mathematics I use to solve physical problems in biomechanics and fluid mechanics. A rock-solid foundation in pre-calculus is imperative for a mastery of calculus. I have been successfully helping my students raise their grade in pre-calculus for the last four years. I help my students learn pre-calculus by emphasizing the fundamentals and ensuring they have a sufficient understanding of the theorems upon which pre-calculus is built.
Hello there! My name is Colin, and I have five years of experience tutoring math and science. I am a PhD student in the UC Berkeley-UC San Fransisco joint bioengineering program. My strong background in STEM qualifies me to tutor math and science up through lower-division college courses. Aside from my academic qualifications, I believe that it is my genuine passion for math and science that makes me an effective tutor for students of all backgrounds.
As a tutor, my goal is not to impress students with how much I know. Rather, my goal is to show my students how easily math and science concepts can come to them when they are presented the material in a straightforward way. The late physicist, Richard Feynman, posited that the ability to explain complicated ideas in a simple manner is the true mark of understanding. I agree with this a
ssertion, and I make it my goal each tutoring session to explain even the most complex phenomena in a simple way, so that my student will come away from the lesson invariably understanding it. Additionally, I emphasize a strong understanding of the fundamentals, because both math and science are heavily inductive disciplines; many of the theorems and laws are founded on other, more fundamental principles. I have personally experienced the discouragement of trying to learn material that is beyond my preparedness level, and so I can empathize with students who are in that boat. Fortunately, I have learned that the remedy is always a return to, and a strengthening of the basics. That is the approach I take with students who find themselves struggling in a course.
My online teaching platform is a “black board” drawing program that my students can follow along with as I explain concepts and solve problems. I simply share my screen with them during the session, and at the end, I take a screenshot of the notes and email it to my students for their reference. I hope this brief explanation of my qualifications and teaching style has provided a clear image of what you can expect from me as your tutor. I am eager to hear from you and help you succeed in your academic goals!
I have dealt with precalculus for years and can help you master it as well! Calculus is very much a language and learning to speak it is not so daunting with the right teacher. I am that person.
I have dealt with calculus from high school to the present. I took AP calculus BC and scored a 5 on the AP test. I've also taken calculus III and Differential Equations and TAed the latter in college. I have worked with multiple students in precalculus and worked with the material continuously as a physics major. I can help you exceptionally well in your preparation for calculus (or in completing this class if it's your final math class!)
Concerning Pre Calculus, I am more than prepared to work with you in meeting your goals. Shoot me a message to tell me your goals and I'll help you meet them!
Teaching is what I do! I have TAed multiple classes and taught dozens of students. I teach piano and other music concepts, as well as STEM fields in school. I only teach concepts that I'm completely fluent in, however, so you always get the absolute best instruction possible!
I have been playing piano for over 12 years. I retrained from scratch in the Taubman Technique a few years ago and play with ease and effortless musicality! I have taught tons of students how to play the instrument, incorporating these concepts into their playing as well.
I also tutor in STEM topics, including all math, physics, chemistry, and others. I have tutored over 2 dozen students and helped many achieve great results. I have a Master's degree in applied physics, graduated Magna cum Laude, and am fully prepared to help you master your math/science class
Schedule a lesson with me! See yourself improve from someone who knows how people think and understands the topics enough to impart the same onto you!
I have been teaching and/or tutoring Precalculus since 2003 at the middle school, high school, and university level, in person and online. Precalculus demands patience, attention to detail, and reasoning skills which I help the student achieve while at the same time converting frustration into determination and growth.
Math Tutor and Teacher - Personal or Online - Skillful and Effective
I love tutoring and my approach is three-fold. First, I help each person learn how to become more successful and independent lifelong learners. Second, each tutee should complete their assignments as much as possible before each session so we can identify and focus on specific trouble spots. Third, I work within the framework and scope of their primary mathematics teacher to supplement and augment what is happening in the classroom.
I have experience as a nationally certified tutor, tutoring in high school and college, as well as volunteer tutoring of the GED math tests. I have also taught middle and high school mathematics and instructed college mathematics. I enjoy working with teenagers and adults of all ages. My tutoring and teaching experience includes element
ary school to grand parents in age, as well as non-traditional students, and Veterans.
I also teach university math remediation classes (AKA developmental education) as well as classes to bypass remediation by preparing for the Accuplacer/Compass admission tests.
I am familiar and comfortable with current technology (graphing calculators, computer algebra systems, computers, mathematics programming) as well distance learning (online homework and testing and MyMathLab, WebAssign, Khan Academy, Skype, etc.).
In addition to tutoring online I enjoy working in person with each student. Meeting at local public libraries is ideal as some branches have reservable private and safe study rooms with white boards.
For each appointment the tutee needs to bring all their materials, text book, class notes, completed homework (as much as possible), specific questions for me, and any completed instructions from our previous session. If online homework is used in class then please bring a laptop. If you don't have one, there are often Chromebooks available for checkout at the library. One hour appoints are preferred because they allow more time for specific learning and growth.
Additionally, I can supplement or substitute regular homework with specific and tailored lesson plans.
Shortly after each session, I will report our progress and my obervations, including instructions for follow up.
I strongly recommend use of the WyzAnt app for easier communication and calendaring purposes.
I enjoy helping each tutee recognize that they are, in fact, capable of learning and succeeding in mathematics. I look forward to the opportunity to serve.
I have several years of experience with this subject, received perfect scores on end of course exams, and can offer testing tips, tricks, and strategies that will ensure you get an A on your next exam. I will provide many practice problems and examples that measure a full understanding of pre calculus concepts and will structure my lessons to keep you strongly prepared for when you take calculus.
I am an engineering student at the University of Miami and have been challenged to help students understand and excel at my FAVORITE subject, MATH. I have become well accustomed to the testing atmosphere and have developed shortcuts, testing tips and strategies, and easier methods for remembering and understanding the subject material. I am committed to helping my students comprehend the foundations and core principles required for excelling in mathematics. I am patient with my students and will show them how much FUN learning math can be!
In the past, I have provided instruction and tutoring to many of my peers and have helped them receive the grade they wanted in these subjects. I was also employed by a tutoring agency called "Clutch Prep" that offers extra teaching in math and science fields. Students are expected to dramatically i
mprove their math skills, testing techniques, and work ethic.
Please consider choosing me for an exciting, learning-filled adventure!
I love math, I love physics, I love teaching. Working with numbers to get exact answers makes me feel accomplished as much as when I see my students experiences that "Eureka!" moment with my help. My private tutoring started when I was Junior in high school many many years ago, and helped many students, ranging from elementary to high school, refining their problem-solving skills. Remember, math isn't just + - x /!
I liked solving math problems ever since I was little, which ended up all the way to graduating from UCLA with a B.S. in Astrophysics. I started tutoring Math, Chemistry, and Physics ever since when I was a junior in high school, and I practically paid my college tuition through tutoring math and science to as young as 3rd grade to someone in college. If you just want a couple of problems solved/explained, or want to learn the entire lesson and logic behind them. I will be happy to lend you a helping hand.
I have taught physics, chemistry, and math (from simple calculations, algebra, and geometry through to calculus) in classroom settings and as a tutor for over 10 years, before which I studied and worked as an environmental engineer. With math, regular practice is key. In tutoring students in more advanced math classes like calculus, I often find that the problem is not with calculus per se, but with the algebra they are still using at this level. Getting the basics right will help you down the line with your more advanced mathematics.
At my school, I was the teacher infamous for answering a question with a question in order to lead the student from what they already know through reasoning out an answer, which can sometimes take a little more time and effort than just giving the student the answer. Research proves that this is the best way to solidify your learning for deep mastery, though. Don't worry - I won't let you get too frustrated or ever abandon you as we explore and ...
Initially trained in environmental engineering, I made the switch to teaching after spending two years as a volunteer teacher abroad. From there, I went on to earn my Masters in Teaching at Seattle University and to teach at public and private schools for the last 10+ years. I've tutored elementary students for whom English is a second language in math, tutored calculus, taught geometry and algebra, high school physics, and introduced a new curriculum to my school for the honors chemistry class, which I also taught.
I'm a big fan of learning by inquiry (especially for science and geometry), which involves trying something out and exploring it a bit, then processing what you experienced through conversation and critical thinking. I understand that not every student is looking for this, though, so if you're just looking to get throu
gh tonight's homework, I'm there for you, too!
Though I'm originally from Washington State, I recently moved to Canada with my wife and three young kids. I'm a lifelong fan of J.R.R. Tolkien (author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings), hiking, permaculture, and enjoying our miraculous universe. We're hoping someday soon to build our own little hobbit-hole house homestead...
I have taught more than 8,000 science, math, and foreign language lessons and enjoy spreading my enthusiasm for physics, chemistry, geometry, algebra, pre-calculus, French, and other subjects. I am patient, understanding, and knowledgeable and willing to repeat explanations as often as necessary or modify my approach to aid in comprehension.
Good day. I very much enjoy tutoring students online and in person and have been tutoring students of all ages since 2011 and have provided more than 8,000 lessons. As a former forensic chemist for the Drug Enforcement Administration and a small-group water-testing laboratory supervisor for the US Air Force overseas, I graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Drew University with a major in chemistry and a minor in French. It would be an honor to aid you or your child in meeting academic and future career goals. Thank you for your time.
Jennifer has been the biggest blessing to our family by coaching my daughter! Despite my daughter being an all honors and AP student there is still so much that she has learned from Jennifer. My daughter has benefited greatly from how Jennifer explains the concepts with patience and knowledge of the material. My daughter has described Jennifer as “ really nice and easy to talk to and ask questions”. Jeniffer has coached my daughter in AP Chemistry, Precalc and currently AP Calculus and SAT. As a mom, it’s the best thing when you know that your child will do well in a class because Jennifer is there to help her! You will be so pleased if you work with Jennifer and you definitely reach you goal of doing very well in the class! Thanks a million Jennifer for helping my daughter achieve her goal!!!!

Jennifer has tutored me 5 times so far and she is amazing! She has a way of explaining even the most complicated problems and makes them easy to understand. She is very patient and understanding. There has not been a geometry question that I have had yet that she isn't able to break down into simple and understandable steps. I have used other tutors as well prior to using Jennifer and I will never go back. I have already scheduled with her for an additional 4 times! I usually send her my questions the night before our lesson and she is completely prepared the next day. She even has a copy of my textbook for her to reference as well!

Jennifer is a wonderful tutor who not only has deep expertise in her subjects but knows how to take that expertise and help her students to become better students. The result is that her students are able to retain what is taught in various subjects. My daughter has been tutored for years by Jennifer and is an honors student. We definitely believe that Jennifer is a major factor in her success. We recommend her highly and as my daughter has matured during her time with Jennifer, she values her insight and advice as she plans to take the next steps toward college admission. We are very fortunate to have a resource in our community that not only we as parents value, but that the students themselves value too.

"Daniel helped me reinstall core Algebra 2 concepts that I learned the past year within a couple of hours. He helped thoroughly explain concepts that I mig
ht have had trouble with, and tried to find different approaches to the problem, so that I could derive the answer. He truly is a caring tutor and person."
"I have been communicating with Alex for about 8 months. First he was helping me with my Trigonometry class and now with Pre-Cal. I have zero issues with h
is performance. He is very professional and extremely knowledgeable about anything to do with Math. Keep in mind, he is good at both Math AND teaching/explaining it. I have every intention to use him for every Math class I have in my quest to obtain a degree in Com- Science. If he was living In Houston, he would probably be my wife's piano teacher."
"I took Pre Calculus with Paola and I would rate her a 4."
"Andrew has been a very good fit for my sophomore. Very happy to continue on with him through this year!"
"Akib helped "unblock" my thinking on a pre calculus. I also appreciate the acknowledgment that the work I have is tough. I highly recommend Akib and we ar
