About Mark

Shakespeare wrote some of the best roles for actors, and his work is just packed with tools you can use to get the juiciest possible performances. I can help you find and use those tools, whether you’re highly experienced or you’ve never acted before.

I learned the basics of acting through doing Shakespeare, and I’ve introduced many young performers to acting the same way. (FYI it’s totally normal if you hated reading it in school!)

I firmly believe that the ability to act well resides within every person who has the desire to act. In order to access this ability, actors need to develop a strong sense of self, increase their confidence, and rid themselves of the habitual tensions that hold them back. Therefore, I believe good actor training is personal, individualized, and focused on self discovery.

Lessons with me will focus first and foremost on discovering and honoring yourself as a person and an artist, and then on developing your relationship with the text. We can work on a specific piece or pieces (for an audition or a performance), or on plays, scenes or monologues that we choose together, to help develop you as a performer. No matter what, text we choose, we will focus on you speaking own personal truth through your performance.

I have recently been accepted into an elite graduate actor training program, and so I have had experience and success at preparing school auditions. I can help you put ...

I've been a professional actor for over 30 years. My work has ranged from classical theatre, world premiere plays, to guest starring roles in television and film including Modern Family, Scandal, CSI Los Angeles and many more.

I co founded an award winning regional theatre in the Northwest that is still running strong. Last year, the film I directed, Here Awhile starring Anna Camp, and Joe Lo Truglio, was released to wide acclaim.

Throughout my career as an actor who has performed with 6 Academy Award winners, I have remained committed to sharing my knowledge and experience with other actors.

I received my BFA at Southern Oregon University where I worked at the famed Oregon Shakespeare festival. My MFA comes form the Alabama Shakespeare festival. I taught acting at Cornell University and Willamette University as well as teaching privately for the last 20 years.

The industry is growing and changing all the time, and what makes working with me particularly special is that I'm ...

Tim's class is a great resource for anyone looking to improve their acting skills, audition technique, or general understanding of the industry. He does a wonderful job of translating his extensive experience into practical advice for other actors. Every week, he provides individualized feedback to each workshop participant on every aspect of their submission. I've learned so much about specific techniques for television and film acting, the practical and technical considerations when putting together a self-tape, as well as just general professionalism and industry standards. Thanks to this workshop, I feel much more confident and prepared for what a career in acting entails.
Liz
This is a very useful class. I've learned a lot about making self tapes that I didn't know before - from technical considerations to acting skills. The class is friendly, supportive, and useful.
Lauren
I love working with Tim! He consistently guides me to do my best possible work, and I always walk away feeling confident that I crushed the audition, whatever it is. And booking several jobs after getting coached by him certainly doesn't hurt!

How to reach a modern audience. Scansion, the vital importance of this tedious exercise and how it can literally reveal deeper meaning. If your out there auditioning, you need at least two classical monologues of varying lengths, Shakespeare is what is usually expected and is still considered the pinnacle regarding the former and scenes as well. If you prefer a less practical approach, we can certainly attack the subject academically in the main, though academics are naturally included necessarily in the practical work as well. The bottom line is your lessons will depend on your experience, goals and abilities.

About Randy

I have always been an actor first, it is the craft and discipline in which I hold my advanced degrees; it is my first and eternal love. There really isn't much more one could add to such a claim. Simultaneously I have believed a teacher is born, not bred; and I was born to be in theatre, and now, wi

First off. Just want to say that we had to cancel our first session. However, I really like this guy because he had kept it real and set it straight on the reason why the session was cancel. He was very sick that day and he didn't want to be involved with the session not being at 100%. Respect! I wouldn't have wanted him not being at his best either. Takes alot of guts for a person to confess that. I really appreciated the honesty because that explains how passionate Randy is about the craft.
Second of all, when we did our first session, I had to deal with a rough technical patch of trying g to join in for the session. He had no problem helping me with this technical glitch rather than allowing TakeLessons (who I was unable to reach because of matainace issues), to handle it. He helped 5he TakeLessons team. A plus Randy! Though I had to finally use another device to finally join the session, Randy was still willing to have patience and help me with the tech problem.
Lastly, Randy brought a warm feeling to the session and yet sincere. He made me feel welcomed, which opened me up more during this session. This helped because I am uncomfortable with improv but want to get better. He understood this and gave a real honest approach. Also, he informed me that we were going to get a gist of my performance level and work from there. Furthermore, we were going to ease our way into improvement. This gave me alot more balance than other improv classes. He is even willing to give me a little homework that I can practice in prep for next week.
Randy is very encouraging and I enjoyed our first session. I'm exited for next week!

"Michael is a fantastic teacher! He helped me work on my Cleopatra among other great characters. He is focused, knowledgeable, passionate and has a profound manner in making the text accessible-current and personal. I used to have difficulty relating to a piece, the language intimidated me. Michael helped me to make the text my own, coming from my own heart. It changed how I worked on everything, both classical and modern."

"I've had the pleasure of working with Anthony for almost a year now and it has been the best decision I've ever made. Anthony is the type of teacher that knows your potential and will do everything he can to push your skills to the next level. He challenged me on my diction, reading lines out-loud, and taught me techniques on how to understand the character I was playing in ways I never would have thought. I can't say enough amazing things about him!"

"I was always afraid I couldn't learn Shakespeare, but Nicholas explained the intent on the word, the intent on the line. Soon, I was so caught up in the meaning of the lines and the story I was telling in that moment that I was able to engage in the role, smoothly, without worrying that I was performing Shakespeare. He broke it down so I could understand it, and then feel confident doing it. Highly recommend!"

I now have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the lines than which I have learned in school. I would highly recommend his coachings to any actor!"

"Not only is Kelsey proficient and very knowledgeable, she also has so much enthusiasm and an obvious love for teaching. She put me at ease right away and from the very beginning showed such excitement to be working with me. She comes prepared, takes the session very seriously, but also has fun with it so time flies by. I'm honored to be her student and pupil, and look forward to many more acting lessons, as she imparts her wealth of knowledge of Shakespeare and acting technique."
