I require 24 hours notice for a cancellation. If a lesson is not cancelled, yet the student fails to show up within the first 15 minutes of the lesson, a no-show fee of 100% of that lesson will be kept. However, I completely understand that sometimes there may be an emergency. If this is the case, I am happy to reschedule the lesson for a later time if there is calendar availability, as long as the student messages me 24 hours prior to the scheduled session.

Chess is my all-time favorite hobby and I have acquired it to be my greatest passion. I have been playing and learning chess for more than 10 years now and since then, I have been participating in chess tournaments at the FIDE level. I have quite the advanced knowledge of this game and I understand that chess has unending combinations and knowledge and a single lifetime is not enough to sustain all knowledge of it, but still, I know pretty decent techniques, tactics, tips, and tricks to engage in a good game with your opponent.

I have been working with Colin for the past two semesters as a sophomore in college. He has helped me with both my 1st and 2nd physics courses, both of which I have received an 'A' letter grade in. Hello there! My name is Colin, and I have nine years of experience tutoring math and science. I am a PhD candidate in the UC Berkeley-UC San Francisco joint bioengineering program. My strong background in STEM qualifies me to tutor math and science up through lower-division college courses. As a tutor, my goal is not to impress students with how much I know. Rather, my goal is to show my students how easily math and science concepts can come to them when they are presented the material in a straightforward way. The late physicist, Richard Feynman, posited that the ability to explain complicated ideas in a simple manner is the true mark of understanding. I agree with this assertion, and I make it my goal each tutoring session to explain even the most complex phenomena in a simple way, so that my student will come away from the lesson with confidence that they grasped the information. Additionally, I emphasize a strong understanding of the fundamentals because both math and science are heavily inductive disciplines; many of the theorems and laws are founded on other, more fundamental principles. I have personally experienced the discouragement of trying to learn material that is beyond my level of preparedness, and so I can empathize with students who are in that boat. Fortunately, I have learned that the remedy is always a return to, and a strengthening of, the basics. That is the approach I take with students who find themselves struggling in a course. 

My online teaching platform is a “black board” drawing program that my students can follow along with as I explain concepts and solve problems. I simply share my screen with them during the session and at the end I take a screenshot of the notes and email it to my students for their reference. Many chemical concepts can be taught using common household chemicals with basic safety precautions. Vinegar and baking soda can teach the gas laws, buffers, and even thermodynamics.

As a high school chemistry teacher, many of the challenges I see arise from students with incomplete backgrounds in reading and math. For the urgent need I can teach calculator fluency to decouple chemistry performance from weak math skills, but for students with more time I have to rebuild mathematical foundations and reduce the amount of memorization required. Speaking of memorization, I use spaced repetition where students practice quizzes and flashcards over time so that the information can be retained longer. In order to improve comprehension of complex scientific material, I have a number of assessments that will help me select the right strategy for improving scientific literacy. I believe the best outcomes from a tutoring arrangement come when students practice outside of sessions provided that they are not allowed to practice incorrect procedures excessively. so I will use data to determine what is appropriate practice.

I am currently working on finishing my certification as a tutor trainer through the National Tutoring Association and have completed training as both a critical thinking and math specialist. I am licensed to teach 6-12th grade biology and chemistry in the state of Wisconsin. I have also scheduled my defense for my PhD in computational biology at the University of Kansas.

I am currently a Chemical Engineering student looking to help others through any level of academics. I have coached and tutored as a side passion through high school and college, I have real world experience that has placed me at the front of classrooms and teaching is a passion of mine. I am a PHD organic chemist. Graduated 1971 with a PHD and Masters degree from Rice University,
Houston, Texas.  Worked as a teacher at Texas Tech University for several years and as an industrial chemist for the Upjohn company in Decatur, Georgia as well as many years at the Pantex plant (USDOE) in Amarillo, Texas. I also taught at Texas State Technical Institute and Amarillo college in Amarillo as a chemist teaching freshman chemistry. 

After taking a class of teaching habits in undergraduate, and starting the journey of secondary education.

After going to college for undergrad and taking a few classes at the graduate level, I realized that there are far less sources of information for advanced subjects. I will be the teacher to change that, From advanced topics to real world examples, either in the laboratory in the classroom, research lab, or industrial applications. 


I was a Chemistry major at the University of Michigan and am now a rising medical student! I have tutored high school students and have taught organic chemistry to college students. I enjoy teaching and would love to meet you!
