I've taught vocal training to children, teens, and adults in the US and abroad since 2006 and my students are working! My Masters degree training has afforded me the opportunity to be well versed in effective vocal techniques. My main goal is to help you to develop your own set of tools, and better understand your unique voice. Make sure to wear clothing you can move in during our sessions, and, most importantly, explore and just have fun!

About Toya

I have taught acting to small children, teens, and adults in community, private, and collegiate settings. I taught acting at the legendary Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York City. My love of the arts has enabled me to study and perform in various cities throughout the US; including Los An

My background and career have never placed importance on speaking and looking objectively at myself, I wanted to improve that ability. Toya has been very patient and down to earth with me, as raw as I am, in helping me. After a few lessons I already feel confidence growing and enjoy her instruction.

Made a huge difference in my daughter’s voice in just an hour. Tangible lessons taught. Definitely doing more lessons with Toya!

Hello there!

I am a working actor with over 20 years of professional experience. Prior to moving to LA, I worked in Chicago theaters for 7 years and served as an adjunct faculty member at Cal State Fullerton for another 7 years teaching beginning acting classes. I am a member of Actors' Equity; the union of professional stage actors and I hold an MFA in Acting from Cal State Fullerton. Recent stage credits include South Coast Repertory, New Swan Shakespeare Festival, Capital Stage Sacramento, Golden Thread Productions, and The Great River Shakespeare Festival.

I'm particularly adept at working with complicated and classical language, including Shakespeare. I'll help you make sense of the language in a way that is actionable and dynamic to watch. My approach is Stanislavski based, but I tend to incorporate other methods as well.

My goal is always to give my students the tools to empower themselves to create strong choices that are supported by the text. I love working with ...

Delicate adjustments that empowered me and didn’t freak me out, both gently technical and also getting to the core of the scene at hand. Again, without demoralizing me or freaking me out. Easy to do. Trust me.

So yes! He was great! ALSO the logistical stuff that you don’t want to think about (sound/lights) were magically adjusted to perfection.

Just sayin’. He’s great.

I had college auditions coming up and needed to get coaching on my classical monologue. Adam's coaching was really helpful. He got me to understand the language and the meaning behind the words and how to use my express myself, physically, through the text. He helped me feel really confident going into my auditions. I can't recommend him enough!!!

I want people to feel included and seen, no matter what you believe "your type" is. There's room to look and explore with your repertoire and book. You'll be surprised what you find in just going with something less well known or not known to be for you.
I want to explore what you vocal range can do but also your power and what you seek within the moments and words. I have many great tips and tricks to get you inside the room, rock an audition, or just simply figure out pieces to get you prepared and trained. I have ways to open the potential so there's less constriction and stress within your voice as well.
Even if you just want second opinions, I'm always completely open and honest, constructive to every minute. We can work on warmups and a couple pieces, or come as ready vocally warmed up and we work on pieces the entire time. OR I answer questions you might have about the unknown or what you're looking to aim towards.
Can't wait to work with the incredible super stars in the ...

As a trained actor but a novice to auditioning for musical theatre productions, Mike was a lifesaver to work with. I always felt insecure about not knowing how to read music, yet Mike was able to simplify and translate the intimidating material. He also helped bring out my inner self to the work. Will always go to him if I find myself in a musical pickle! Of course, what do you expect from a teacher who carries the music in his soul wherever he goes...
Maria
There have been so many times Mike has helped me with my vocals. Not only for audition prep, but even for times when I felt like I was struggling with my vocals during a show. The great thing about Mike is that he makes you feel so comfortable. Not only does he know exactly what he’s talking about, he is an excellent teacher and is incredibly encouraging as well. Any time I need an instructor, someone to help me prepare for an audition, or someone to give me feedback on a performance, he is the person I turn to.

Mike is such a talented singer/teacher. For many years I have been lucky to have around when I needed someone to explain any type of music for me. They have such an ear for music, successful finding music for you within your range, and some challenging ones that they know with practice you’ll be able to sing. There loving nature and patience makes them the best instructor. Making you feel safe and warm, with a lovely smile and a voice for miles. I cannot read music but while working with mike on a personal level I was able to pick up a few tricks of the trade, while gaining confidence in my own singing abilities. All around an AMAZING person to work with.

Hello! I'm Dominic R. (though I'm commonly known as "that guy" to very close friends) and I'm an artist. I'm an actor, teacher, singer, comedian, writer, graphic designer, and a really, horribly novice ukulele player.

I. LOVE. ACTING. And I love sharing my passion for that with other people, actors and non-actors alike.

In my acting coachings, I utilize many different exercises to make sure that each student has the knowledge and techniques required for them to feel completely, fearlessly themself. Every artist approaches their craft differently, but in acting, honesty is everything. Together, we'll discover what that means for you and how to make you shine your brightest light on stage or on camera.

Topics Include:
On-Camera Acting
On-Stage Acting
Musical Theatre Coachings
Audition Prep
Comedic Writing and Performance
Cold Reading Skills
and more!

"Michael is a fantastic teacher! He helped me work on my Cleopatra among other great characters. He is focused, knowledgeable, passionate and has a profound manner in making the text accessible-current and personal. I used to have difficulty relating to a piece, the language intimidated me. Michael helped me to make the text my own, coming from my own heart. It changed how I worked on everything, both classical and modern."

I now have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the lines than which I have learned in school. I would highly recommend his coachings to any actor!"

"I was always afraid I couldn't learn Shakespeare, but Nicholas explained the intent on the word, the intent on the line. Soon, I was so caught up in the meaning of the lines and the story I was telling in that moment that I was able to engage in the role, smoothly, without worrying that I was performing Shakespeare. He broke it down so I could understand it, and then feel confident doing it. Highly recommend!"

"Chad provided excellent technique coaching in Shakespearean Acting. I had the opportunity to work with him in one on one sessions and also in a group setting. Both kinds of sessions gave me unique tools like ensable building and utilizing Shakespeare’s text along with all its double meanings. He is easily able to cater to each individual actors needs and really understands how to help break bad habits in order to allow for more growth. Along with text work, Chad provided excellent coaching in creating distinct physical shifts in the body when playing multiple characters in a show. Chad was always willing to answer any kind of questions and continued to surprise me with the ways he could shed some new light on Shakespeare’s work."

"I`ve been taking Shakespearean acting lesson with Michael for a month now and I am very satisfied with him and his method.
Although, I have much of prior acting experience, I was quite unfamiliar with Shakespeare´s plays, lofty language and his metaphors, Michael helped me get to the essence of it very quickly.

He´s a very reliable and effective acting teacher. He`s also punctual, always arrives on time with a plan of what we are hoping to achieve in each lesson. His clear and structured method of teaching enables steady progression.
I definitely recommend him."
