Piano is the basis of western music, the foundation for music theory, and a vital analogy for all other instruments. Every musician and singer benefits from studying piano, and every individual can find satisfaction in creating music from this beautiful instrument.

I emphasize physical relaxation technique, curiosity-driven exploration, and a comprehensive understanding of music through piano performance. It's ridiculously fun, and a challenge at every level. I specialize in ear training and songwriting/arranging, because that's the source of my own delight. Your enthusiasm is the fuel for progress, and I love finding ways to channel your interests into the love of piano.

My 3-camera technique allows you to see what's happening from a variety of angles, translating my actions over Zoom like you're in the room with me. Let's make time to play together.

About Isaac

CUSTOM-MADE FOR YOU Learning involves playfulness, curiosity, and personal connection. I've studied how people learn and how people play, along with 25 years of professional and performance experience, and I focus it entirely on you. I have been teaching piano in the Seattle area for close to ten years. I have worked with young beginners to intermediate and some advanced students. My methods are eclectic and I often draw from the Kodaly Method for beginners. I encourage my students to sing along while they play to reinforce learning, accessing multiple neural pathways.

I teach my students to read music and play with feeling and heart. I instill a love of music in my students by creating musical moments in them and expose them to a wide variety of genres and styles. Students will learn basic technique, theory, improvisation, and performance etiquette, all while having fun!

About Holly

I am an enthusiastic musician with a talent for teaching. I have worked as a voice and piano teacher in Seattle for over 16 years. Previously employed at The West Side Music Academy in 2003-2006, I realized my passion for individual instruction early in my career. I studied Music Education under D

"I truly can only say good things about working with Chelsea. I was quite nervous about taking piano lessons for the first time since my early childhood, but Chelsea was very encouraging and made me feel at ease. Even with pieces that I thought I couldn’t succeed in playing, her method of breaking down the piece and then putting it back together worked amazingly for me and I was able to learn to play those pieces. We had to unfortunately switch to virtual lessons midway due to COVID-19, but she was used to conducting virtual lessons and I didn’t feel any hiccups with the switch in lesson format. What’s also great about Chelsea is that she cares about you more than just as her student but you as a person - she actually helped me with a career change (granted it was related to music) and was very helpful in that aspect as well for me. She was everything I could have hoped for in a piano instructor and more!"

"Great teacher for children, including jazz

Our 3 kids have taken piano lessons at our house with Jim for 6 years. Jim is a unique piano teacher, the kind that is hard to find in the bay area. He teaches classical music to beginners and confirmed students and goes to your house to teach. His training was in classical music, and he knows very well that it takes time and effort to get there, he is patient and encouraging, our kids NEVER felt pressured by him and still learned how to play in an exponential way. Thanks to Jim, they like to play for themselves AND in front of other people, which is one of Jim's important goals. Jim is now a renowned jazz piano player and cofounder of a band (Tre Mojo's) and we are always invited in his gigs when they take play in the bay area. Our son is learning jazz with him, it has been impressive to watch and hear, after a year he does know the jazz harmonies and can do impros. Every spring, Jim organizes a very nice recital where all his students come and perform various types of music (from Beethoven, Chopin, to the Beatles, to jazz impro. from beginner to professional level). Jim basically taught our children to play music with no stress, no competition, and still at a high level. Besides, Jim is highly professional, has NEVER been late, and always does what he says and -we believe- says what he thinks. There has never been a bump in our relationship. We would highly recommend him as a piano teacher."

"Charlie is the best piano teacher I have worked with. In just two months of taking lessons with him, I have learned myriads of info about music, theory, jazz, blues, and the classics. Being under his tutelage is truly an honor and he is patient with me even when I don't practice (Although I must say he's a real stickler for that). I would recommend anyone to him with a desire for music whether you are 5 or 55."

What is the Difference Between Major and Minor?

Students often ask about the difference between major and minor. These terms have two applications in music theory. One use relates to chords (harmony). A second use relates to scales (modes). Both are related.  To understand these concepts deeper, you have to first understand intervals. An interval is the space between two notes. Intervals help to define the  relationship and interaction between notes. This also includes the formation of chords.  Third Intervals  The smallest inter …
