The ultimate instrument: Learn the notes, how to read, and how to play the songs you want to play. For young students, a strong foundation comes first for unlimited capabilities in the future.
As a younger brother at the age of five, I began studying the piano because my older sister did. After my foundation in music strengthened I fell in love with the trumpet. At first, each note took time to develop and I enjoyed the challenge. The trumpet allowed me to travel all over the Southeast later in life and even to China with a 1940's Radio Show. I enjoyed many top-level bands the kindled my love and passion for good music. I want to share that kindling with my students in a nurturing and guiding situation, just like my teachers gave me. I used to go to lessons and become so motivated and inspired that I thought I could change the world. I always knew that I would want to give back exactly that. As my performance opportunities grew into venues like Churchill Grounds, The Rialto, and The Variety Playhouse in Atlanta
and Radio City Music Hall, 54 Below, The Jazz Standard, Bowery Ballroom, Shapeshifter and Flushing Town Hall in New York, my fire for wanting to develop my teaching did also. I was always thinking back to what my old teachers gave me, inspiration. I then understood that inspiration is the key to success in life.
*** Lesson Details *** Lessons will be something the student looks forward to every week. We will work through common method books and learn material that the student has an interest in. For example, some students want to learn to play high notes, a popular song, improvise, or write their own songs. I am a laid back guy, but I do expect effort in the lessons and at home. I believe whatever you put into music is what you get out of it, and I will inspire and motivate the student to get as much out of the lessons as they can. Students will create, with my advisement, and update short term and long term goals every few months.
*** Studio Equipment *** Keyboard or Piano and Music Stand
*** Travel Equipment *** They should provide their instrument, instrument care products (valve oil), method books and sheet music.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in jazz and classical music. I use many common methods depending on how the student tends to learn the best, and will even combine different methods if the student requires it.
A great knowledgeable teacher; he conducts his lessons pleasantly and efficiently.

I have had several lessons so far with Gregory and as an experienced trumpet player can recommend him extremely highly.
I am getting back into the trumpet following a gap after playing for 10 years when I was at high school. Gregory has really helped getting my technique and sound going again, I have been really pleased with my improvement. He has a great demeanour and has been great fun to work with. He is also an excellent player, and is highly reliable and easy to schedule with.

Candida is quite possibly the best music (singing) instructor I've had, seen or heard of. She's got a wide range of talents and is able to hone in on a specific students problems and where they need to develop. I have recordings of my initial songs from when I started a year ago and today and there's a night and day difference.
I (being a bad student) hadn't actually recorded anything in a few months and after implementing some of the techniques she recommended and practicing for a few months, I finally recorded a song we'd been working on...and...I didn't even recognize my own voice and sound. It was that much better.
She's excellent, fun, and funny. I can't recommend her highly enough.

The lessons focus on building a strong foundation of technique and theory which gives students the freedom to explore their creativity and musicality. Students will set a regular practice schedule that they can adhere to, and they will be given specific instructions each week on how to practice effectively, so that they will be playing Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms (or the Beatles) in no time!
Hello! I am a NYC-based singer, pianist, actress, and animal-lover. Born and raised in Los Angeles, my artistic career began as a classical pianist, performing in venues across California, Japan, and Austria from a very young age. As a singer, I performed around the world with the Broadway tour of Avenue Q, and I've been seen in dozens of musical theatre and Shakespeare productions throughout the U.S. and even in Russia!
By combining my two passions of singing and playing piano, I served as Artist-in-Residence for California Musical Theatre Company, Sacramento Theatre Company, and the cell theatre in NY.
I've been teaching in NYC for over a decade, and my passion is to inspire the next generation of creative people of all ages.
When it comes to music, there is a quote that I love: "Every expert was once a beginner." This quote reflect
s my philosophy on pursuing the arts: that it's never too late to start and that no matter where you are in your musical journey, practice is the key to success. Mastering a skill requires discipline and dedication, and my goal is to help you find joy and inspiration along the way.
My lessons focus on building a strong foundation of technique, which gives you the freedom to explore your creativity and musicality; it is very important for me that my students strive not only for technical precision but also for musical artistry. Together, we will set a practice schedule that you can adhere to regularly, and I'll make sure to send you away with specific instructions each week on how to practice effectively.
With my fun, high-energy approach to teaching, you are guaranteed to enjoy the journey as you take significant steps toward becoming an expert. I'm looking forward to meeting you and getting started soon!
Laura was wonderful with my 5 year old girl, she was patient, energetic and her love for music showed through! My daughter has been very motivated to practice her songs to show "Ms Laura" next week. We look forward to working much more with Laura.

I met Laura at Harvard University when we were both doing our MFA degrees in acting. Since our program was not a Musical Theater one and I was not a singer, I started to take private lessons with her to compliment some of the training in singing we were getting there.
Laura is a fantastic singer and actor. She has an incredible ear as well as great knowledge and experience of what makes a singing performance pop. All this makes her an outstanding coach.
Even now after graduation, I am still training with her. Our focus now is on continuing the development of my singing voice. My goal is to reach a level where I have the skill and confidence to audition professionally for musicals, and I know I am in great hands.
Because different types of people learn differently, as a piano teacher, I pride myself in being adjustable to each student and their needs to start or further their knowledge of the piano and music theory. I am also well-versed in several different genres or styles of playing such as classical, pop, jazz, Japanese, and playing by ear. I am confident in catering my lessons towards what each person wants to learn at various difficulties.
I started playing the piano when I was just 4 years old--though at the time, I practice begrudgingly, music took hold of me ever since. Music is a great way to express oneself and share with others how you feel where words may fail. I am a big believer of art helping to bridge gaps and help communication with those around us.
Because of teachers I've had that were strict when I needed a push, funny, eccentric, and caring when I needed a laugh, and most importantly believed in me, I aspire to provide the same encouragement to others.
Hi! My name is Alena and I'm studying music at New York University. I've been taking piano lessons for over 5 years, and have also taken additional piano proficiency classes in my studies. I work best with younger kids, elementary-to-middle school aged. I have lots of experience working with children, and I would love the opportunity to help your child take their music to a new level!
I've been playing the flute for 7 years, and have participated in many honors music ensembles including All-State Honor Band and Lamont Summer Musical Academy. I have lots of experience teaching lessons and I work to make music as fun as it is rewarding!
Every student is different which is why I love to build a custom curriculum for each musician in my studio! Not only will we get you playing your favorite songs or repertoire in any genre, but we can also build strong skills in musicianship in any areas that appeal to you including ear training, solfege, music theory, sight reading, accompaniment skills, composition/songwriting, arranging and orchestration, and foundations of conducting.
I specialize in working with students age 12 through adulthood; beginners through college preparatory and advanced students welcome!
I'm a Brooklyn-based composer, conductor, arts administrator and general wearer of many hats, but I will always consider myself a teacher first! My approach to education is student-centric, goal-oriented, and practical. Every student regardless of their background or identity deserves equitable access to a quality music education that reflects their interests and aspirations.
I provide lessons and tutoring in a wide variety of music including piano, ear training, music theory, sight singing, composition/songwriting, arranging and orchestrating, diction, foundations of conducting, and love to mix and match these with each student, providing a practical working knowledge of these skills across any desired genre.
My current engagements include active work as a composer, conductor, and clinician with both professional musicians and in s
chools, as well as singing in multiple choral groups throughout New York City. I also am a staff member at the League of American Orchestras, supporting our work in the areas of knowledge resources, learning, and leadership. Outside of my regular schedule, I work as a consultant to several socially-oriented music groups including the Refugee Orchestra Project and Voices 21c, both located in Boston, MA.
I hold a Master of Music degree in Music Composition with a minor in Choral Conducting from the New England Conservatory as well as a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
I've had Derek as a conductor for a small string ensemble for about 5 years and he's truly the best anyone can ask for! He's great with young students and is amazing at motivating and explaining exactly what he wants out of musicians. His love and knowledge for music is extremely evident and that in turn encourages his students to strive to greater heights in musicianship.
People of many different ages find themselves asking the question: am I too old to learn piano? No matter your age, playing the piano is a wonderful skill to have for a variety of reasons.
Studies have shown that playing music reduces stress and improves the memory. Playing an instrument in a group also leads to lifelong friendships, while refining communication and social skills.
If you’re wondering whether or not your age will stand in between you and all the benefits of playing …
