I’m excited to work with your child to help improve and enjoy math! When I was in school, math was a struggle for me. I had to learn math in many different ways for it to make sense to me. I had to work hard, and I did!
Because of my growing up and learning how to learn, it has made me passionate to teach and help others. I have taught in pre-schools and been a music teacher for 15+ years.
I’m a strong advocate of learning math. Without having a strong math base, school will be more difficult for kids and less enjoyable. Let’s work together to help your child learn and enjoy math so that their school experience is happier and more productive!
Students are required, by me, to have a subscription to a math site called IXL in order to track student's progress. ixl.com
I am an independent music instructor. I have trained students in opera, jazz, and contemporary.

My instruction emphasizes a relaxed learning environment with a focus on the student's needs.

What Students Will Learn:
*Sound, rhythm, and beat
*Figuring out where the notes are on a page of music
*Understanding high and low notes
*The importance of regular practice
*Performing for a teacher (and an audience, in some cases)
Sources for Student Learning:
*Handbells (for young children)
*Pictures of notes
*Videos/songs that help students learn how to read notes
*I encourage each student to find at least one opportunity to perform yearly. Whether performing for friends or family, regularly performing for an audience results in tremendous growth!
Student Books Used:
I earned my Visual Arts major in Photography from Brigham Young University.
I have run a photography business for 18 years.
I have taken pictures for weddings, engagements, senior pictures, landscapes, and family portraits.
I focus mostly on what students would like to learn.
How to manually operate a camera is a critical learning emphasis.
If applicable, we'll also talk about how to run a photography business.
With my kids, I have worked with one child who requires substantial help and another who is several levels above standard. Both have challenged me to research and learn many resources and methods to help them learn and perform math at a high level.
My goal with students is to assess their math proficiency and either help them find new ways to challenge themselves or help them learn how to be more comfortable with math and perform at an appropriate level.
I strongly believe math is critical for success in K-12 and college. My philosophy is if a student is comfortable with math, he or she will be happy at school!

From experience, math can transition easily from the most frustrating to the most rewarding subjects. It is always a joyful experience for me to see students put 2 and 2 together and arrive at that glorious correct answer.* I have experience working with elementary and high school students, both privately and in volunteer settings.
Whether the focus is on polynomials, trig identities, calculus, or linear algebra, I am here to help. My process is to break everything down and ask the students questions in order to guide them to the solution. I will do everything I can to help facilitate deep understanding and earning that next A!

Fun fact: In addition to being a math major at the University of Rochester, I'm also studying the Double Bass at Eastman School of Music. If you or your student have any interest in music lessons for upright bass or bass guitar, I ...
Since 2016, I've been teaching math to high school and elementary students. I've always loved it. With teaching, I feel that I've grown more patient and more thoughtful in my general life. I recommend that anyone with the means try their hand at teaching. It is a particularly rewarding thing in and of itself.
The summer of 2016, I wrote the music, conducted, and acted as musical director for a full-scale musical entitled Get Hooked: A Pirate Musical. Currently, I'm working on a second full-length project, entitled Nuclear Love, that is set to be produced and performed in the spring of 2020.
I also have experience doing rock and jazz gigs on my electric bass. If you or student is also interested in learning these styles, I'd be more than happy to oblige!
My favorite books are Zen and the Art of Motorc
My favorite quote is "infinity and beyond." Granted, there is no such thing as 'beyond' - unless you're referring to the power set of infinity. Honestly, I just love infinity. I could talk about the infinite hotel and fractals forever (pun noted and kept).
I've been taking French classes for about 5 years now. If you're interested in having a charming conversation in slightly broken French, je suis ton mec!
There are a few things more inspiring to than helping a student triumphantly arrive at a solution. Or watching them nail a big shift that was giving them trouble the week before. Learning anything comes with struggle, with difficulty, and I've certainly had my share of practice frustration. It's important to understand that such an experience is part of the process. I have no doubt that with the right ethic, the right teacher, and a desire to learn, anything can be achieved.
I believe that I have a strong math background. I have been working with strengthening people's weaknesses in the STEM field for the past several years. I want to build a strong and solid math foundation and expand your skills.
I teach mathematics from a graphics, as well as real world perspective. Students learn to understand the underlying elements of a concept and then use that understanding to solve both numerical and verbal problems. I prefer to facilitate instruction basic mathematics. If one has the foundation, then everything else is apricots and sprinkles math wise. I prefer to assist students who need help understanding basic algebra and basic geometry. I am not averse to working with elementary level mathematics for pre-secondary level students. I have worked with pre-schoolers to college freshman in need of assistance with College Algebra. That is where math fun lies for me-- in helping to set the groundwork.
