For younger students, I use the Albert Young Beginner lesson book and activity book. The lesson book teaches basic piano skills at a good pace for young beginners, and the activity book reiterates what the lesson book teaches, but in different fun ways. For older students, I use the Bastien series of Piano instruction for my piano lessons. I use the Lesson book for teaching basic playing skills, the Theory book for basic theory. In addition to this, I like to eventually include A Dozen A Day exercise books and Hannon finger exercises, scales, and arpeggios. I feel this method of teaching will lead to well-rounded, quick improvement!

An amazing teacher that helps you progress as a performer. Piano has been such a fun instrument to play and amazing considering the techniques taught by her! Her lessons are so fun as well as educational.
Kevin
Fay is such an amazing teacher! I got into Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School thanks to her. Best Teacher I've had, she helps train your voice and goes through the vocal anatomy so you understand techniques such as proper breathing, posture, coordination, grounding, acting, diction...etc. I've been her student for about a year three years now and I have to say that my voice has improved so much as a performer all thanks to her! If you get the chance, at least take a class, you will not regret it!

"Best teacher ever!

I've been taking lessons from Matt for a couple of years now and have performed in 2 recitals. The recitals Matt offers are an excellent motivator for reaching goals and growing my skill level. I'm very pleased with my progress and so appreciate Matt's attention to detail and his encouragement."

"Zach is teaching our seven-year-old son, Ben, the piano. He's been working with Ben for seven months, now. Zach is kind and incredibly patient. He is encouraging by default. Ben looks forward to his lessons. Zach seems to match Ben's pace, pushing him forward when it's appropriate and reviewing material when it's clear that Ben is not ready. Zach began with familiar tunes, without sheet music, and Ben was proud of his early accomplishments at each step. Now that they're into reading music (using a Disney fake book), Ben feels comfortable and engaged. Zach is a graduate student, and he's on a student schedule (at least for now), which means scheduling lessons around the academic year--an approach that works well for us. It also means that we had the chance to see one of Zach's recitals at ASU, and that was inspirational for our own young pianist (and his dad). Ben and I recommend him highly."

"What can i say about this Guy? Well Justice Etrew is an exceptional piano teacher have been trying to play the piano for a good number of years now, and it has always been a struggle for me. Justice takes his time to teach, he doesn’t yell like most teachers do. This man is very knowledgeable in what he does. I started taking his class in January and it is now July and i see much improvement in my piano playing skills than ever before. I would definitely recommend justices to anybody. He is also affordable too!!"

6 New Ideas for Piano Warm-Ups

We all know the importance of warming up - but do you actually commit to a proper warm-up every time you sit down to play the piano?  If you're in a rush, it's easy to forget it.  However, an effective warm-up is essential for avoiding injuries, such as tendonitis, and can also help increase the dexterity of your fingers and hands, allowing you to reach certain tough chords. Before you get into the "meat and potatoes" of your practice session, you'll want to spend a good 10-15 minutes focus …
