I'm a producer, instructor, singer songwriter, sound engineer, and composer residing in Brooklyn, New York. I'm currently working on a Master's Degree in Music Production and Sound Design at The Academy of Art University, freelancing as a pianist/vocalist, and I'm working on and recording a second album.

I started singing, playing piano, and composing music when I was seven years old. Throughout my musical career, I have performed and collaborated with various rock bands, classical trios, vocal ensembles, churches, and theater groups.

My Education includes Berklee College of Music, Academy of Art University, McNally Smith College of Music, MCTC, and Full Sail University (BS and AAS degrees in Music Performance, Sound Arts/sound Engineering, Music Production).

I try my best to involve and invite students to join or listen to live music ensembles, recitals, and performances of different genres. I teach all styles of music for voice, piano, and guitar. Our first piano lesson with Tamara was really pleasant. She was very welcoming and attentive the whole time. I can tell my son was really enjoying the lesson. The details with the progress sheet and flash cards she provided was a plus for me. Her studio space also made the experience really great!

About Andrew
I've been studying music for 10 years now. Having come to music later in life than most, I find that I am more empathetic to the perspective of the beginning student than many teachers. I spent the Summer of 2009 teaching music fundamentals to groups of severely physically and mentally disabled children of all ages. Since then I've completed my Bachelors degree in Music, taught privately and with several established music schools.

To me, music is above all about transformation. Beautiful sound transforms our experience of the environment, and learning an instrument can help students approach life as one big instrument they need to practice to master.
Learning to play an instrument is also an experience of training one’s nervous system to gradually act and respond in new ways, and that kind of persistent, focused
, training is applicable to any new skill.
Last and definitely not least, playing music is fun.

*** Lesson Details ***

I plan my lessons around getting students to enjoy playing music as soon as possible, whether that means learning how to strum a chord rhythmically, playing their favorite song, or how to take a blues solo.
There are steps that have to be climbed to do more complex things and I encourage students to practice a little every day rather than for a long time once or twice a week. Developing a love of music and steady practice habits are more beneficial over the long term than practicing until your limit.

Andrew is great, very patient. My son is five and Andrew was able to keep him focus on the task at hand, he makes the lesson so enjoyable that my Dimico was practicing long after Andrew left. We are looking forward to more lessons with him.

Learning the Ins and Outs of Guitar Playing

I must say that I am please with Jamie's technique and patience with me. Jamie is very knowledgable and shares some of his secrets (not shortcuts mind you) that help in learning to master the acoustic guitar. He leaves you with valuable lessons and exercises that can do nothing but improve on how you play the guitar. I'm looking forward to continuing my lessons with Jamie.

Tutoring Rate (IMPORTANT): I only do in-person tutoring because I believe effective learning is multi-dimensional and personal not flat and distant. My minimum lesson length is 1.5 hours for Academic subjects and 2.0 hours for Test Prep. My rates for children and teens will be in principle the same as adults because I invest at least an equivalent amount of time and effort and I have to consider at least 2 individuals compared with an adult student (so in reality, I have to charge more)! Different arrangements possible on a case-by-case basis and in general I do offer DISCOUNTS for 5 lessons or more after the first session (see each subject rate for more details). Finally, I am aware that other tutors may be in a better position to meet your budget and situation so we have to accept that.

When I am not tutoring, I am involved in projects related to technology, hospitality and service industries. I also enjoy cooking especially when I can make an ordinary dish into something extraordinary by adding that little "extra."

I asked Rod to work with my daughter on geometry to help her get ready for 9th grade. Rod explains each concept and its application very well. His lessons are appropriate for grade level but also challenging. I am particularly happy that my daughter is learning a broader approach to problem solving and critical thinking. As a scientist (PhD in chemistry) and a mother of a teenager, I appreciate Rod’s approach as it will provide a solid foundation for my daughter’s learning for many years to come. And he is always on time and gives me an overview of what was covered and what will be covered after each lesson. I highly recommend him.

I has reached out Rod at the point in which I resigned and I was expecting to get "B" in my statistics class. I was not confident and constantly struggled in responding to the test questions because I was not sure of concepts. Rod explained me concepts step by step in a very simple way also, by drawing the graphs and that everything was clear for me as visual person. He was able to answered and explained all my questions that I was well prepared and confident on my final exam. Thanks to him I gained the necessary knowledge and I ended with "A".

We originally solicited Rod's support in order to help get our 8th grade daughter up to speed in math class. With high school rapidly approaching, we wanted to ensure that her footing was solid for the rigors of the high school curriculum. As the New York State testing approached, we asked Rod to take some time in the weekly sessions to work on test-taking skills and to do a bit of brushing up on skills that my daughter may run into trouble with. I had my daughter take last year's 8th grade state test (which I found a copy of online), and asked Rod to review her work and help address the learning gaps. Rod's approach was to help my daughter recognize that she actually did know how to do many of the questions that she answered correctly, and with helping her reframe some of the questions, she was able to recognize that the test was not in fact, blind siding her which did wonders for her confidence. Rod spent ample time discussion stress reduction techniques, both before and after the test. As an incredibly supportive gesture, he followed up with us after each of the test days in order to inquire as to how she did, and show she was feeling overall. Rod's contribution definitely helped alleviate her anxiety and bolstered her confidence. By the end of the test she felt confident that she had performed to the best of her ability.

I hired Paul last November to help my daughter, Kara, with her middle school NYSSMA audition. Paul assessed my daughter, asking her to play a song she already knew and took notes on what she was already good at and what to improve on. When Paul taught Kara her NYSSMA solo, he was very meticulous, paid much attention to Kara's playing, and taught her techniques on how to correct certain mistakes and methods on how to improve what was already good to make her stick out. On the date of her NYSSMA audition, she was very confident, got a perfect score, and made it into the All-County Band :).
I could not recommend Paul more. His experience and methods of teaching technique especially caught my eye, and is what differentiates him from other instructors. He is very patient, kind, honest, and sits down with you to set realistic expectations and goals and how to achieve them. I still book him today for my daughter who is now in High School and has even made All-State Bands because of Paul. He may be in college, but he has music wisdom way beyond his years!!

Some people are naturally good at math and some are like deer in the headlights. Studying Physics, Engineering, and Architecture at M.I.T. meant learning and doing *lots* of math. I find the greatest delight helping those who aren’t naturally good at math learn to appreciate and conquer it in the context of their regular, day to day lives. My greatest accomplishment in this respect has been teaching one of my daughters who hates math to embrace it as a wonderful, dependable, and mysterious, faith-building part of life. Regarding Art, I began drawing in three dimensions at the age of two (it was a stuffed panda bear doll if you must know). I am a keenly visual person, and began winning awards in art in elementary school, and eventually went on to become student artist of the year in New York state while a sophomore in high school. That same year I had a show in a gallery in Manhattan. The following year I made my own short animated film and was hired by a private academy to do all their creative print marketing. My approach to teaching art is similar to my approach to teaching communication. Sometimes art is about telling a story. Often it can be about making a point (even if that point is just about beauty or dysfunction, or beauty in dysfunction). But whatever its purpose, art is *always* about seeing, with more than your eyes. The best forms of art capture and captivate all of who we are and how we perceive, whether we’re talking pencil sketches or making movies. While I teach lots of different styles, techniques, and media (including pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, pastels, watercolors, acrylic and oil painting, graphic design, and print forms, among others), this fundamental how you perceive approach to the creative process is what I strive to teach when I teach art.

Regarding the Bible, I have been an exhaustive student and teacher of the Bible for 32 years and would welcome the opportunity to help you either learn it, teach it, or both (which is what often happens). Nothing that I have taught in my life is as important as the truths and life lessons I have learned and taught from its pages. It is scary and funny and crazy and tender (among many things) but most of all it is more than what most of us have heard (especially in church), and it will change us if we let it. Our studies would include language, history, culture, geography, and even science, combined with lots of thought provoking questions, and creative insight. We won’t shy away from the difficult topics that often cause doubt or division, but we will certainly avoid the canned, off-the-shelf answers that do more harm than good in helping people digest this book. This is not a safe class. If you already think you have a pretty good handle on the Bible, then this class is probably not for you. But if, like me, something about the profession and practice of Christianity around you seems terribly off, or missing, then this may be exactly what you’re looking for. Expect that much of what you thought or believed (but perhaps never really read or studied) will likely be challenged. This is not an academic study, but rather an upfront and personal interaction with The Truth.

First off, I am absolutely terrible at all things math related.
As in, two plus two equals five, sort of bad. Okay, maybe not that bad, but still... ;-) Mark helped make math easy and understandable for me, in a way that textbooks or even lectures (regardless of how "good" they might be) can't. Many people have head knowledge, and are labeled as a teacher because of their textbook understanding, but the real test for a good teacher is how to transfer that head knowledge to another person in an easy, understandable and fun way. Mark does all that and I believe more in everything he teaches. He has mastered how to reach every person on the level they're at and explain not only what they are trying to learn, but also the "why" behind it.

He is not just a one trick pony either. I've heard him speak on many occasions, and each time, regardless of what he's speaking about he sounds deeply passionate and thoughtful.

I also enjoy acting, (not necessarily as a career, but I have done a few productions here and there) and often times a character I will be representing will need an accent to distinguish it. Mark can pick up just about any accent and guide you into mastering it. The longest it has taken me to learn at least the basics of an accent under his guidance, has been two days. Now that doesn't mean everyone will have a perfectly mastered accent in that same time, but it does say something about his abilities as a teacher.

All this to say, I believe one of the best qualities of a truly great teacher is the ability to be a student, and be humble enough to learn themselves. I think the proof of this quality is very evident in Mark's varied abilities, and I would highly recommend him to many.

Mark​ has been my instructor for ​many years in a variety of subjects. He has a gift for helping people to not just have head knowledge, but practical, every day, what he would call heart knowledge. ​He is more than a teacher and his influence on who I am is greater than the lessons he taught me. It is important to him that one sees the big picture, even if it isn't always what we'd like it to be. He is passionate about ​using the talents God has given him to serve others. He explores the Scriptures diligently, as well as very thoroughly. It is more than a gift but I believe it is a huge purpose of his life to help others come to a more full knowledge of God and the relationship He desires to have with us.


I have also taken lessons from him in all of the other subjects he teaches and have found the same fundamental principles of his instruction methods/style to hold true. He loves to help people to really understand what they are learning in an applicable way. He knows how to adapt to his students' needs for optimal learning and growth. From visuals to stories and examples he always finds a way to make each lesson not only memorable but fun. I would highly recommend him as an instructor in any one of the lessons he offers.

I first met Mark over 20 years ago when he was a missionary in eastern Europe. We worked together on the mission field and I had opportunity to see first hand that he is indeed a man of many talents. Though Mark's primary job overseas was to teach and preach the Bible, I quickly realized that I had never before come across an individual with such talent and gifts in such a wide range of subjects. Mark is a true Renaissance man. Though he studied astrophysics at one of the world's most prestigious universities, namely MIT, he is also an incredibly gifted artist. He can paint, draw and write beautiful poetry just as easily as he can preach and teach powerfully and persuasively. He breaks any subject down into digestible parts, making it easy to understand. He is fun to listen to and learn from as he shares lots of stories and anecdotes that bring to life whatever subject he is teaching. And it never ceases to amaze me that he is equally gifted in math, which is my weakest subject and one I have greatly feared and avoided for the better part of my life. Yet when explaining any mathematical problem, he makes it seem so easy and doable. Mark is extremely intelligent and a quick learner and is able to master whatever subjects interest him. But it is his ability and passion to transfer his knowledge and skills to others in a fun and memorable way that is his greatest gift.
