Finding your real voice, free vocalizing, harmony, blending, improve usable range, the mixed voice. The first steps to mastering vocal freedom are the building blocks for vocal success. Whether the student is a child or an adult, with little or no training, it is my goal to make singing an enjoyable and freeing experience. Singing with complete vocal freedom and confidence can seem very elusive. Surprisingly, it's not as elusive as one might think! The steps to vocal freedom are within reach and most students experience a measure of freedom within the first lessons. Using a systematic method incorporating learning technique and songs the student loves to sing makes learning more fun and gives the student a greater appreciation of music as a whole while encouraging a passion for music that lasts a lifetime.
My main subject is voice but I also teach acoustic guitar, ukulele and songwriting for the student who desires to develop their own style and create their own songs. Not only is it fun but the music education that comes with it is highly valuable for future musicians. (guitar and ukulele rentals available at an additional cost to the student)
For students who are just beginning their vocal journey or are busy performers who want to improve healthy technique and sing with more confidence; or perhaps a worship leader or backup singer is struggling with vocal strain, my goal is to help them find vocal freedom and maintain an amazing, healthy voice that will confidently meet their expectations, year after year, in every situation, every time.
As an active performing vocalist, musician, songwriter, and Christian worship artist and band
leader, I understand the demands and challenges of a busy performance calendar, singing sets for back-to-back audiences day after day and week after week, and the need for a vocalist to find the vocal freedom that will produce confidence in their voice no matter what the venue.
Vocal freedom is within reach and most students experience a measure of it within the few first lessons, some even gaining a full octave in their range in their first lessons. Using a systematic method incorporating the study of good vocal technique and working on songs the student loves to sing makes learning more fun and gives the student a greater appreciation of music as a whole while encouraging a passion for music that lasts a lifetime. I encourage and teach sight reading, and theory basics especially for those students who are considering music as a profession.
*** Lesson Details *** Each student learns with material that will be divided into step-by-step doable lessons so they can be sure to learn the best techniques and material along the way. Sheet music and lesson books and instrument rentals are provided at a minimal additional cost.
*** Studio Equipment *** My home-studio is bright and open and set up with an upright piano, full length mirror, music stand, iPad with appropriate applications, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and computer for recording and playback. Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons or wait for their children in the adjacent room. I also may provide a follow-up email which includes any recordings and lesson notes from the current lesson.
As the student progresses I also provide a PA system to teach mic technique and build performance confidence.
I ask that students come prepared with the following items to their lessons. ~ Bottled water ~ A ring binder with paper for notes and a zippered pouch to keep tools and handouts. ~ A flash drive for recording transfers or they can use their phone or other recording device to record their lessons. ~
*** Specialties *** I honestly love my students and love teaching! It's such a privilege to be a part of their musical journey. Just finished my very first lesson with Cosima. I already learned so much. She really broke down that art of singing and made it very clear how the voice works. Then we did exercises afterwards which helped me know what I need to work on. Definitely need to check her out. She’s great!(:

Teaching Philosophy: Singing is a process and a journey and every singer’s journey is different. My goal as a vocal pedagogue is to create a positive environment in my studio where my students can reach all of the goals that they set out to achieve. In addition, it is important for my students to feel a warm, welcoming atmosphere, where they can make mistakes, take big risks, and ask questions. The art of singing is a whole-body experience and it is essential for students to train and practice like an athlete would train for an Olympic event. I encourage my students to do some sort of physical activity that has an emphasis on the abdominal muscles (i.e. yoga, pilates, tai chi, weight routine), so that they feel what it is like to use the whole body as well as strengthen their core muscles, which directly relates to “appoggio” or breath support. I teach my students to use their entire body when they sing. I believe that students should practice with physicality gestures, so they can get connected to their whole body and feel a strong gravitational center. As a vocal pedagogue, I foster a healthy vocal technique and I believe that it is necessary for students to understand how the muscles work for inhalation and exhalation. In addition, I believe that it is important for students to have kinesthetic awareness of the process of singing. After a student has mastered the basic understanding of alignment, the body, and breathing, I then focus on phonation and having a clean onset after the inhalation. Singing is all muscle coordination, so careful practice and patience is needed. The process cannot be rushed. Students in my studio have a solid foundation, which can be applied to any style of music that they wish to sing. Every student has different needs and it is crucial to cater each lesson to the particular student.
Jamie's approachable and friendly personality is reflected in her teaching style - she is not afraid to have you try various unconventional techniques that turn out to be super effective and fun! In the year I've been taking lessons with her, my breath support, technique, and vocal range have all improved significantly - so much so that a high note that I found strenuous a year ago is now almost within my comfort range! She is very receptive to different styles of music, and her suggestions are always challenging, fun, and geared towards developing your voice.

Jamie is a fantastic voice teacher. She is extremely patient and encouraging with me as a beginner. I started with hardly any experience at all, and my singing has already improved significantly after only 8 weeks of lessons. She helped me with song choice and voice repertoire, but is also open to my suggestions. I can highly recommend her for anyone who has been thinking about voice lessons, but has not had the courage to start, even at an older age. Just give it a try!

"Excelllent Music and Voice teacher
Studying with Greg was a wonderful experience. I'd sung as a teenager in choir and had studied music as a child. As an
adult I wanted to study voice for creative outlet and found Greg through a friend. He got me started immediately on vocal exercises, some music theory to train my ear and we selected songs that I was interested in. I broke through some 'blocks' I had about singing in front of another person and really made progress. I feel much more confident with expressing myself through my voice. Incidentally, I saw Greg perform with one of his students who got a recording contract -- he's a wonderful musician on guitar, piano and voice. A pleasure to watch and then bring that back to the lessons. I highly recommend him as a teacher !"
"Gabe is the real deal! Not only is he a detailed and thorough vocal technician, but his experience as a performer offered valuable insight for my perform
ing. He's flexible and really goes the extra mile to make sure his students are understanding what he's working on with them. He realizes teaching vocal technique and coaching audition / performance is NOT a cookie-cutter approach. He understands different people absorb and retain instruction in different ways. I also really appreciated the detail in conveying emotion and character in songs. Gabriels Broadway and Las Vegas experience was helpful in a very practical way to my time working with him in terms of auditioning, and stage performance. I really appreciated his wisdom, guidance, and advice. Additionally, I found his relaxed and un-intimidating manner to be completely relaxing and helpful in opening up in lessons. I highly recommend this talented performer and instructor."
"Easy to work with. Amazing teacher! Thank you!"
"Claire is wonderful. She always creates a fun, positive learning environment. She's great at giving feedback to improve your technique in a practical, c
onstructive way. I would highly recommend her!"
"Randy is a wonderful teacher. We are so happy and grateful to have found him. He's extremely knowledgeable, patient, enthusiastic and fun! My daughter lo
oks forward to her time with Randy and is blossoming."
"Tia knows her stuff! She is personable, fun, helpful and I always look forward to our lessons!"
"He is very flexible and addresses the vital points and marks."
"Ben is an excellent teacher! His experience and patience allow for a great experience no matter the student's experience. His lessons focus on the mecha
nics of singing and provide a concrete foundation on which to build your skills."
Ask any experienced vocalist for a list of what they consider to be hard songs to sing, and they can probably provide you with five or six examples without much thought. However, there are as many examples as there are different voices, and every individual singer will have individual vocal hurdles to overcome with their repertoire.
On the other hand, it is possible to identify a few examples across a few genres where a majority will agree that, yes, those are hard songs to sing. Here are fiv …
