Whether you are an aspiring artist, a total beginner, a teen building a competitive portfolio, or someone who's always wanted to learn to paint, I will help you develop your technical skills and find your voice as an artist! You will gain confidence through practice and experimentation as you work towards developing your own style as an artist! And most importantly, you’ll have fun! I can’t wait to work with you!

I am a classically trainer realist oil painter with an MFA and years of experience. I have taught at several ateliers in NYC and internationally through the State Department’s Art In The Embassies programs. I break down the painting techniques of the Old Masters into easy to follow steps and cater the lessons to what the individual student is interested in pursuing. Also— I’m fun! Come paint with me!

I teach all techniques of oil painting, from painting fast and loose to the style of the old masters'. I work with my students to identify their painting goals (I teach all levels and do not require any prior artistic experience!) and create a custom lesson plan to help develop their painting skillset. I teach the very basics of how to mix paints all the way to more complex portfolio reviews and critiques of painting concepts. I believe anyone can learn to paint when given the right tools! Let's get painting.

About Tori

I am a professional artist and musician in Chattanooga, TN! I have been teaching art and music for six years in California and Tennessee. I have been painting since I was big enough to hold a paintbrush and playing the harp for over 15 years. I have a degree from Stanford University in Art Practice

I can't recommend lessons with Tori highly enough!

I've been obsessed with oil painting, and every kind of 2D visual art, for as long as I can remember, but I never really believed in myself to do it until I worked with Tori.

My drawing, painting, and even my 3D work progressed more, and more quickly, working with Tori than they had in years

Thank you Tori!!!!

My three boys (ages 11-15) loved working with Tori. We still have the block print-making pieces, paintings and charcoal drawings displayed in our kitchen. Their favorite project was creating plaster casts of their own faces. Tori is very thoughtful, patient and has a great zen energy. I highly recommend Tori!

I've been drawing all my life and still enjoy it. It's a great pastime and a creative way to express yourself. You'll need, pencils, large pad of paper and to keep a sketch book for this class. You'll learn different techniques and ways to see things on paper. If you want classes in the Manhattan Beach library, let me know, and give me some time, so I can schedule a room there in advance.

"I wish I could give Sandra TEN stars; five are not enough. She's the best! She helped me see my pictures, and the world, in new ways. I was lucky enough to see her work with a variety of photographers, from students just starting out, to professionals who had been working in the field for years. They all had great things to say about her, and how she showed them how to improve their portfolios. Many of them went on to win contests thanks to her teaching. If you want a teacher that is easily approachable and very accessible, has a wonderful sense of humor, and will take you and your photos to a new level, do yourself a favor and contact Sandra. You'll be amazed!"

Photoshop vs. Lightroom for Editing Time-Lapse Photography

Once you've done your time-lapse photography, how should you edit it all together? Here, Pasadena, CA teacher Nathan H. shares his recommendations, plus the pros and cons of using Photoshop and Lightroom...   So you just finished your amazing time-lapse of the sky. You’ve composed your shot. You’ve made sure nothing went wrong. You’ve waited an hour for your camera to take 600 images. It was a long, painful process.
