About Joy
I am a graduate of UC San Diego (bachelor of arts, sociology) and UCLA (master of public policy). As a child of immigrant parents, I value diversity and love learning languages. I read, write and speak Spanish fluently, and have intermediate command of both Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese in reading, writing, and speech.

Photography has been one of my main areas of focus for over ten years. I am trained in both film and digital formats and specialize in demystifying the DSLR so that you gain a good understanding of manual settings and how to use each to improve your photos.

Caring, compassion, and understanding are essential for learning and I strive to do my best in these areas.

Joy is lovely and has been very flexible with my schedule. You can tell she loves photography and enjoys teaching. If I was more of an online learner I would have rated the session a 5. I am now realizing I am more of a hands on person it is personally challenging for me to learn using this method. In an ideal world we would be learning by shooting in real time.

About Heather
Hi! I'm Heather and I have been teaching music since the early 2000s. I grew up studying voice and piano because my mother is a voice and piano teacher! I have had lots of choral, solo, and operatic experience. I went to the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and where I earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance. One thing I am passionate about is helping you learn music you are excited about! Studying music doesn't have to all be "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and rigorous exercises. I want to help you get better at what YOU love! Classical technique can be applied to any genre! I am excited about helping you achieve your goals!

About Dillon
Hello and welcome to my teacher profile! My name is Dillon S.

I am a music and art teacher, and I have earned my Associate's degree in Music Education at MDC with a focus on jazz guitar. I have a fairly diverse experience in different genres of music (primarily worship/church music, but also rock, pop, punk/metal, jazz and others). I have also sung and played guitar, drums, and bass in numerous bands throughout the years (currently, drummer/percussionist for The Fortune Tellers in Miami, FL).

I have always had a deep love for art, and am currently working on my Bachelor of Science in K-12 Art Education. I have a particular interest in figure drawing/portraiture (charcoal, graphite, India ink), landscape and still life painting (acrylic and oil paint), and both digital and film photography.

I am hoping to improve my teaching skill
s through this platform and impart knowledge onto others. I am laid-back and a kid at heart, and I find it important to teach with a sense of humor. For the record, I'm also a huge geek. I enjoy video games, superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy, animals (I myself have two cats), board games, cartoons/anime, technology/science... I also love traveling! If you're into something, feel free to talk to me about it, I love getting to know what you're passionate about!

Dillon is an outstanding music teacher who is very good in teaching his students multiple areas of music ( theory, rhythm, notation) in order to take their instrument playing to the next level. I have been a beginner Ukelele student of Dillon for a few months and have seen a significant advancement in my learning and skill playing of the ukelele. Overall, he is a very patient teacher who deeply understands music and takes the necessary time to work on the different areas where he sees opportunity for his students to improve their musical instruments playing.

I do not see teaching as simply repeating what has been already detailed in text books and lectures. Everyone’s mind is different and thus everyone has a unique perception to understanding one issue or another. Things are better illustrated with an example.

A while back, there was a television show hosted by a T.V. personality named Monty Hall. In the show, Monty presented a contestant with 3 closed doors. Behind one door was a new car. And behind each of the other two doors was a goat. The contestant had the option to choose one door so as to win the new car.

The probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 or door 3 was the same, about 33.33%. Let us say that the contestant picked door 1. Monty would then open one of the other two doors that were not chosen by the contestant. There were 3 terms in the game: 1) Monty knew what w
as behind each door; 2) Monty cannot open the door that was already chosen by the contestant; 3) Monty would only open a door that hides a goat.

Let us say Monty opened door 3 revealing a goat. Monty then asked the contestant if the contestant would like to switch to door 2 or keep his original choice of door 1. Contestants would be bewildered not knowing really what to do. Was it better to keep the originally choice or was it better to switch or it would make no difference whether to keep the original choice or switch?

Meet Marilyn vos Savant. Marilyn wrote a column called “Ask Marilyn” in a newspaper called Parade. Marilyn was known for having one of the highest recorded IQ. A reader sent Marilyn a letter asking her if it was better to switch or not to switch. Marilyn stated in her column that a contestant should switch since switching doubled the contestant’s chances of winning. Many of Marilyn’s readers erupted in protest including readers with Ph.D., mathematicians, and academicians. Most people believed that the probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 was the same of 50%.

This became known as The Monty Hall Problem or The Monty Hall Paradox. Articles and books were written over this problem. Actually Marilyn was right and this was proven using computer simulation. Yet until today many people cannot understand that switching doubles the chances of winning.

At first glance this paradox might seem irrelevant to teaching. But I think it does. This paradox tutor the mind in the subject of structured thinking which is very important in learning.

About Carlos
Almost all my work is inspired by Contemporary Realism; Heavily influenced by classical realism and hyperrealism. My favorite technique is the oil on canvas, the genre that I practice most often is the Still Life, because of its infinite compositional and pictorial possibilities. As for my paintings, it is common for me to use elements that go unnoticed, some marbles, a piece of Kraft paper, glass goblets, a Rubik's cube, seemingly insignificant but chromatically interesting pieces of wood and metal with organic textures or created by the human being, who pose a challenge to be accurately represented for any painter. Currently my work focuses on the main elements of the composition, accompanied by neutral backgrounds, with the aim of the viewer fix their eyes on these pieces. My goal, like that of every painter of the realist genre, is to
follow the long road of technical perfection, this is certainly a utopian goal and may sound like something very pretentious, but, constantly improving in every aspect of life is not a Bad habit, although I have many defects, being conformist is not one of them.

Biography.
Carlos Bruscianelli is a Realist painter born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1980. Since 2000, he began studies in Civil Engineering at the Central University of Venezuela, but his artistic interest induces him to take classes in realistic painting at the Museo Tessari - Rizzo, where he specializes in the techniques of oil painting on canvas and soft pastel. Finally, Carlos Bruscianelli suspended his engineering studies dedicating himself completely to his artistic production.

At the Tessari - Rizzo Museum he began his training as an artist in 2004 and culminates in 2011, during that period, he participates in the annual Salon in multiple opportunities, obtaining two honorable mentions. Simultaneously he participated in the annual hall of Faber Castel, being finalist in four consecutive opportunities and obtaining two honorable mentions, also in the Salon Juan Lovera he manages to be finalist in 2012.

In 2008, for the first time, he exhibited his work at the prestigious Dimaca Gallery, then at the renowned LPG Gallery in his hometown. Starting in 2014 he began the process of internationalization of his work, specifically in the cities of Miami and New York.
