I have a Master's Degree in fine art and over 20 years experience in the creative arts with 10 years experience as a graphic designer. I am the lead artist and art director for multiple organizations in the fields of video games and board game publishing. I regularly create concept art and push the limits of creative world building and story telling through visual art and creative writing. I'm also a nut for good design, aesthetic and ergonomics. I am also a body flight wind tunnel coach with several sky diver students and have worked in vertical wind tunnels for 7 years. Before that I was a dj and music producer for about 10 years playing shows amidst working as an artist and designer. I grew up on the mountain snowboarding in Lake Tahoe and was a snowboard instructor for 3 years. Besides all of that I have taught art courses at UO and several community colleges around the nation. I absolutely love creating and love teaching even more! You can expect to learn as much as you can imagine from me and advance your art skills into a talent that can truly change the world around you. I can adapt my teaching methods for all your needs and pacing while learning this challenging skill. This platform allows me to share so much more with students than is possible in a normal classroom setting.

Kirk is very friendly, timely & an excellent instructor! Was unsure of how this drawing could be taught/received online. It went smooth & I truly have learned some basics already that can be applied immediately!
I was extremely hesitant to throw down money on something like online lessons. I have a brain injury from military service and struggle with vision and attention...and the list goes on. However, I couldn't stand not being productive and creative, and not being able to do what I wanted to do with my photography. I went with Kirk because of his educational background and experience. Signing up for lessons with him was probably the best thing I have done for myself this entire year. All of my concerns about online learning didn't even come into my mind during the lesson. I seriously learned more and retained more in one time with him than in a summer course at my community college. He is great at gauging your level of proficiency and working with your speed - so things just seem to flow. Kirk makes the online learning experience comfortably and easy. I highly recommend booking lessons that are at least 45 minutes long, because 30 minutes goes by in no time.
I am grateful to have partnered up with Kirk on my path to learning to draw, and I agree with the high praise written about him here in other reviews. Kirk has developed a clear and coherent curriculum for his students to help us progress in a logical (but also quick!) fashion from foundational basics to larger projects. I not only appreciate his clarity as an instructor, I also really love his perspective on art-making in general, which focuses on composition, storytelling, and re-learning how we see things. All of this, coupled with his cheerful and laid-back style, have gone far in demystifying drawing for this beginning student. Rather than feeling overwhelmed at what I don't know, I am enjoying testing the skills I do have to work on projects that are interesting and meaningful to me. Highly recommend! Thanks, Kirk!
