Whatever your skill level, however fast or slow you want to go, I want to help you to become a better artist and enjoy it while you’re learning! What we cover in your lesson will be determined by your level of expertise. If you are just starting out with oils, we will discuss some important things to understand about the colors, mediums, how to set up your palette and some different ways of applying paint, etc. If you already have some experience with oil painting, we will pick up with whatever areas you would like to improve on. If you are interested in painting the human figure or portraits in particular, we can discuss some important ways to go about painting flesh tones. There are also some little known tips I want to tell you about that will be useful to artists of any skill level!

I will share with you any suggestions that I have for technique or different ways of approaching your painting that may help you with whatever areas you’re struggling with. We can focus on how to paint whatever subject you prefer. It’s all about you! I want you to get as much out of your lessons as possible, and we will work on whatever you need to start painting better than ever before!

About Anthony G.

I want to help you make huge leaps in your skills to become a better artist than you even thought was possible! Whatever you want to create, you can do it! Private lessons can save a lot of time and keep you on the right path for your personal individual needs, where ever you are on your way to becoming Leonardo (not DiCaprio, the other one). Want to learn how to draw lifelike faces? Paint realistic still life? Improve your proportions with the human figure? Master color with landscapes? I have experience doing all of these things and I want to share some of the best methods to go about them with you.

I’ve been painting with oils for almost three decades, and drawing for as long as I can remember. I’ve been a full time fine artist for over a decade now, and have been doing guest demos, private and group lessons for many years, for various subject matter and age groups.

After graduating from Tyler School of Art at Temple University with a major in Painting, I had jobs making signs by hand, doing T-shirt designs, and in a graphic design studio with clients like M&M Mars, and Revlon. As a freelance artist, I did logos, movie poster illustration, album art and packaging design. I even scored and created sound effects for some short films! Yes, I play keyboard as well.

For my fine art, I’ve worked in many different mediums including watercolor, acrylics, digital, ceramics, sculpture, metal casting and photography. But painting with oils and drawing are my most preferred ways of creating (drawing is the basis for painting). I’ve painted and drawn many different kinds of subjects, but the figure is my favorite. I've worked from photo reference and from life (something right in front of me) as well as from my imagination; the range of styles that I have used have gone from photorealism all the way to cartoons. I am also proficient in Photoshop, which I currently use often to create composite images as reference for my paintings. My paintings have been displayed in many shows across the country, and have sold internationally.

There are all kinds of different ways to approach drawing or painting the same thing. You should use the techniques that feel most natural and work best for you. I will customize your lesson to the subject, medium and speed that you prefer, so that as long as you've got the necessary fundamentals taken care of, you can make strides in whatever area you want. I hope that you will sign up for a lesson with me so I can show you how! If you're not sure where to start, just send me a message and we'll figure it out!

*Availability Note: There is a glitch on the TakeLessons website that they are working on fixing, but it currently defaults to showing that I'm not available from 11:30pm to 12:00am, but I am actually available from 3 pm to 2 am Eastern time. If you are interested in lessons, please go ahead and sign up but leave the lessons unscheduled and contact me directly if you need a class during a time slot that you are not seeing as available on the website. Thanks!

Anthony is a patient, thoughtful instructor! I took private lessons with him quite some time ago, but still vividly remember the tips he gave me. He'd be a great fit for students of all ages and levels.

Anthony G. is honestly the most AMAZING art teacher I have ever had! I didn't know what to expect from the private art lesson and was pleasantly surprised when Anthony was able to speak to what I am truly passionate about, which is nature. His positive energy, joy, and excitement for teaching is genuine and he goes out of his way to understand your artistic vision and goals, which really made me feel important and valued. Anthony G. is able to balance professionalism, humor, and quality standards for his students that creates a relaxed atmosphere and enhanced learning environment. He cares about each one of his students and is incredibly patient with them. He makes sure that you learn so much in a short amount of time, and ultimately succeed in achieving your artistic goals. After taking his class, I was able to more clearly define my voice, making me feel more confident about my ability to communicate through artistic expression. He is also a PHENOMENAL live event painter at weddings!

I'm so jazzed to take my next art class with Anthony Galati! I strongly encourage anyone to do the same!

Anthony Galati's techniques have shown me how to make my drawings contain more depth and realism. My artwork is less simplistic and more realistic.

My skills as an artist have improved greatly after working with Anthony. Many people have noticed improved pieces following my work with Anthony.
