- Teaches students:
- and Ages 5+
- Teaching since:
I have been teaching since 2006 on a variety of topics. I graduated with an BA from the University of Wisconsin. My degree is in History with and emphasis on East Asian history.
I've taught all age groups from age 2 up to retirees. My teaching experience includes one-on-one and group classes in a variety of settings. I've taught corporate classes, private lessons, small groups, and traditional classroom lessons.
We have a student-centric philosophy of learning. Lessons are generally relaxed and designed to work towards accomplishing student determined goals. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. Special focus on topics like music theory, self-accompaniment, composition, song writing, and home recording are available as well.
What are your personal goals? We'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.
Lessons with small children are more focused on just having fun while developing a good musical foundation, but we prefer for them to have as much personal ownership of their lesson as possible.

Melissa is a knowledgeable, direct and friendly instructor. I appreciated her foundational growth method. Teaching from the basics and building from there. I am looking forward to future lessons. Thank you Melissa!
Melissa was a great teacher. She was clear, patient, and provided the right amount of instruction. She provided very interesting information about the subject. I really enjoyed the lesson and will continue.
Very nice and knowledgeable
Melissa was very friendly. I like her teaching style which she told us some theory. This made me get better understanding,
She is very patient and nice

It was the first lesson. But I think it is going to be great.
My daughter is so excited to begin lessons here. First one was fabulous and she's practicing every day.
I've taken ukulele lessons with Melissa for about 3 months now. As a beginner to music, Melissa is patient with me and builds on topics and techniques in such a way that I was able to grasp them. Not only have we covered chords, strumming, and rhythm on the ukulele, but she taught me about music theory as well (which was unexpected but I've enjoyed learning!). I would definitely recommend Melissa for ukulele lessons!+ Read More
This star system was confusing. If my rating submitted was a 1 it was in error.

Melissa was great. Thank you Melissa.
I thought it was a great first lesson and we really look forward to more! I can already tell Melissa has immense insight into the game and my daughter enjoyed every minute of it. Thanks Melissa!
Excellent chess instructor. Very patient and experienced teaching my children 6 and 7 years of age. Always on time.
Melissa is an awesome instructor. She let me take my time. Easy to work with. Very detailed, can't wait for my next class.
Melissa was very patient and very knowledgeable.
Melissa is great for beginners! Amazingly patient and gets the kids learning their favorite song (pop, hip hop, jazz) on the second lesson. It's a great way to learn while keeping the lessons contemporary and keeping the kids interested!
No need to have a proper piano at home - a decent keyboard to practice on is all that's needed.
This is my second attempt to get my daughter learn Piano and I am pretty happy with Melissa. What I observed is she makes it real easy for kids to understand Piano. She kinds of stimulate thinking at the time of learning and hence make piano learning interesting for kids rather than something complicated and boring stuff.
She was also nice to offer free lessons in month of august, that helped us to evaluate her compatibility with my daughter.
the best , my 6yr old daughter , who is very shy & normally will take time to adjust with new but she was very happy with Ms Melissa. The BEST are very small word to describe her.
Melissa is a very patient and friendly teacher that really cares about her students. To be clear, I've worked with her as a peer and colleague. I've always had a great deal of admiration for the time, effort, and caring she puts into the preparation for her students. Whether it's been in classes or one on one lessons, she's done everything she can to cater to the group or individual's needs. If you need a kind, dedicated teacher to get the child in your family started, she's the one.+ Read More
