Hello there! I am a professional calligrapher with 20 years of experience as a tutor, mentor, and coach. I operate my own business focused on handlettering using pointed pen, broad edge pen, brushes, paint, and chalk, as well as custom watercolor and papercut art. My undergraduate degree in studio art provided me with a solid foundation for my studies in traditional woodworking, after which I worked in Key West, FL as a marine finisher while continuing to crew on sailboats and guide eco tours via kayak and paddleboard. I guess you can say I like to work with my hands!
I began my dip pen calligraphy studies in 2016 and quickly built a portfolio working on projects for local restaurants and within the wedding industry. I began teaching calligraphy three years ago and have taught workshops to a wide range of students in a variety of settings. My aim is to make calligraphy accessible to everyone and to do so remotely now that in person workshops are no longer available during the Covid 19 pandemic. I welcome the opportunity to work one on one with private students from the safety of their own homes and I look forward to teaching you.

Margot was very personable and knowledgeable about the calligraphic style that I wanted to know. I do window painting and wanted to have a better understanding to apply to my own work and felt like I was given the tools and knowldege to do that.

Margot is very kind and offers great teachings. Her calligraphy is beautiful and she really inspired me. I would recommend her to anyone who is trying to learn the art of calligraphy.

I wasn't sure how successful I would be learning Calligraphy online. At the end of my lessons (I signed up for five of them) I found Margot successfully laid out the foundations of Calligraphy for me. Her lesson's were informative and her instructions on what to work on in- between lessons were clear to follow. Furthermore the bonus of it all is that Margot is a nice person to learn from and work with.

Great beginners modern calligraphy class or in my case a great refresher course to motivate me to start practicing again! Margot was very patient and provided some great tips. Would definitely recommend to anyone new to calligraphy!

Margot is a great teacher! She had a bunch of really helpful worksheets for us to practice on before we created a piece to take home. She is patient, funny, encouraging and gives super clear helpful tips. Thanks for the great class Margot!

Margot is a fantastic instructor! Very fun yet thorough, she kept the class exciting and informative. I would suggeset a class with Margot to anyone!

Very patient and talented teacher. Even in my everyday writing I now find myself using her techniques!

Margot G. is a really good teacher. She makes her students feel comfortable immediately, regardless of their skill level and experience. My handwriting is not a pretty sight, yet I was able to create some fine examples of notes and cards during the class, with the encouragement and lessons offered by Margot.

I took Margot’s class in Key West and really enjoyed it! She has infinite patience, which was needed for me, a complete beginner.

Margot’s teaching method is thorough And concise yet relaxed and so fun. Her ability to teach a class of students of all levels understand technique with ease is a true testament to her love of the art and excitement for sharing it

We just loved taking lessons with Margot. We have taken multiple classes (myself with my 10 year old daughter). She has wonderful people skills. She was very prepared. She is a super teacher. She has great interpersonal skills. Kids love her too.

Margot G. is a wonderful teacher. She has the ability to immediately set her students at ease, regardless of their abilities and experiences. (I have extremely poor handwriting, and did not feel intimidated or afraid to try to learn how to do brush strokes and create surprisingly pleasing cards and notes.) Margot knows her craft, and knows how to teach and then offer support to her students. The class was entertaining as well as fun. I learned many skills in a short time period.

Margot is a great instructor and a born teacher. She immediately connects with each student. She asks everyone’s name and then remembers it, which is quite impressive with a large group.
She can teach to all levels of ‘artistic’ ability. She offers assistance and guidance so the finished product truly belongs to the student.
I have been to two of Margot’s classes. I have zero artistic ability, yet I left with a card (Valentine and Mother’s Day), that I was proud to share.

I use a combination of dip pen, paint, and chalk to letter menus and artwork for restaurants and bars and to complete a variety of privately commissioned projects. From quotes on paper to acrylic wall signage and vintage suitcases- no surface is too difficult, though it may involve some serious contortion! I specialize in wedding services and bespoke gifts and have turned many original designs into greeting cards sold at small boutiques and craft shows. I also teach workshops and do live lettering in retail locations.
