Hello New Student,

My name is Tara. I am a pastel portrait artist located in Waldorf MD. I teach drawing and painting for ages (7 to Adults) in Southern Maryland. My area of study is working with pastel portraits of people and animals both on dry and wet paper or canvas.I have taught Basic Drawing to children ages (5-8), and Portrait Drawing to children ages (9-17) at the Michael's Arts and Crafts located in Waldorf MD. One of my portrait artwork (Barack Obama) was displayed in our local newspaper the City Paper. I have also received recognition for my other portrait artwork at the Portrait Society of Atlanta GA.

I am excited about teaching drawing and painting to anyone who wants to learn how to draw or paint, or to improve on their techniques. In my art course, I offer a variety of art lessons. Each week the student will learn
a different technique which includes Art History, World Art from various countries, Graffiti Art, Floral and Fruit Still Life, Landscape Art, Seascape Art, Fabric Art (Designing T-Shirts or Athletic Shoes), Arranging a variety of compositions, Blending Techniques, Color Mixing, Color Theory, and Time Drills to improve art skills, and eye and hand coordination. The student will also learn how to use charcoal, pencil, pastels, oil pastels, watercolor pencils, colored pencils, markers, watercolor pans, and acrylic painting on specialized drawing paper, and canvas.

I received my Associates Arts Degree in Studio Art from Prince Georges Community College in 1985. I also received my Bachelor's of Art degree in Visual Performing Arts from the University of Maryland Baltimore MD in 1987.

Tara was wonderful when working with my boys. She was always on time, never cancelled and was always smiling. She was gentle and guided them through each project. I would highly recommend Tara to anyone who wanted a personal, quality lesson in art.

About Sondra
Hello future student :) My name is Sondra and I would love to help you achieve your painting goals. I have a wide range of skills, from abstraction to realism and many hues in between. I received my Bachelor's in Fine Arts from The Oregon College of Art and Craft, a school that gave me background in modern, conceptual art. I also learned and revered techniques from the old Masters, such as Rembrandt, who have a classic, timeless perspective on painting. I've heard it said that it takes 10,000 hours to become a pro, which is why I give my students a painting assignment from our very first lesson. I will get you started wherever you are in your level of experience. I'll help you learn to paint what you're looking at as well as develop your own sense of style when painting expressively. I have a great eye for color and mixing and my students
have felt this was a particular advantage of learning from me. I'd love to meet you and help you on your painting journey. So sign up with me today!

I do not see teaching as simply repeating what has been already detailed in text books and lectures. Everyone’s mind is different and thus everyone has a unique perception to understanding one issue or another. Things are better illustrated with an example.

A while back, there was a television show hosted by a T.V. personality named Monty Hall. In the show, Monty presented a contestant with 3 closed doors. Behind one door was a new car. And behind each of the other two doors was a goat. The contestant had the option to choose one door so as to win the new car.

The probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 or door 3 was the same, about 33.33%. Let us say that the contestant picked door 1. Monty would then open one of the other two doors that were not chosen by the contestant. There were 3 terms in the game: 1) Monty knew what w
as behind each door; 2) Monty cannot open the door that was already chosen by the contestant; 3) Monty would only open a door that hides a goat.

Let us say Monty opened door 3 revealing a goat. Monty then asked the contestant if the contestant would like to switch to door 2 or keep his original choice of door 1. Contestants would be bewildered not knowing really what to do. Was it better to keep the originally choice or was it better to switch or it would make no difference whether to keep the original choice or switch?

Meet Marilyn vos Savant. Marilyn wrote a column called “Ask Marilyn” in a newspaper called Parade. Marilyn was known for having one of the highest recorded IQ. A reader sent Marilyn a letter asking her if it was better to switch or not to switch. Marilyn stated in her column that a contestant should switch since switching doubled the contestant’s chances of winning. Many of Marilyn’s readers erupted in protest including readers with Ph.D., mathematicians, and academicians. Most people believed that the probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 was the same of 50%.

This became known as The Monty Hall Problem or The Monty Hall Paradox. Articles and books were written over this problem. Actually Marilyn was right and this was proven using computer simulation. Yet until today many people cannot understand that switching doubles the chances of winning.

At first glance this paradox might seem irrelevant to teaching. But I think it does. This paradox tutor the mind in the subject of structured thinking which is very important in learning.

About Carlos
Almost all my work is inspired by Contemporary Realism; Heavily influenced by classical realism and hyperrealism. My favorite technique is the oil on canvas, the genre that I practice most often is the Still Life, because of its infinite compositional and pictorial possibilities. As for my paintings, it is common for me to use elements that go unnoticed, some marbles, a piece of Kraft paper, glass goblets, a Rubik's cube, seemingly insignificant but chromatically interesting pieces of wood and metal with organic textures or created by the human being, who pose a challenge to be accurately represented for any painter. Currently my work focuses on the main elements of the composition, accompanied by neutral backgrounds, with the aim of the viewer fix their eyes on these pieces. My goal, like that of every painter of the realist genre, is to
follow the long road of technical perfection, this is certainly a utopian goal and may sound like something very pretentious, but, constantly improving in every aspect of life is not a Bad habit, although I have many defects, being conformist is not one of them.

Biography.
Carlos Bruscianelli is a Realist painter born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1980. Since 2000, he began studies in Civil Engineering at the Central University of Venezuela, but his artistic interest induces him to take classes in realistic painting at the Museo Tessari - Rizzo, where he specializes in the techniques of oil painting on canvas and soft pastel. Finally, Carlos Bruscianelli suspended his engineering studies dedicating himself completely to his artistic production.

At the Tessari - Rizzo Museum he began his training as an artist in 2004 and culminates in 2011, during that period, he participates in the annual Salon in multiple opportunities, obtaining two honorable mentions. Simultaneously he participated in the annual hall of Faber Castel, being finalist in four consecutive opportunities and obtaining two honorable mentions, also in the Salon Juan Lovera he manages to be finalist in 2012.

In 2008, for the first time, he exhibited his work at the prestigious Dimaca Gallery, then at the renowned LPG Gallery in his hometown. Starting in 2014 he began the process of internationalization of his work, specifically in the cities of Miami and New York.

About Ricardo
I specialize in realism or realistic pencil drawing. I also draw with pen, which does not allow for mistakes to occur. I start with a blank sheet of paper that eventually develops into a finished piece of art that usually takes about 8 hours of straight drawing. I have won many art awards. I began drawing just like you from a private teacher although it was from a gallery owner for 8 years. I eventually attended Otis Art & Design in Los Angeles where I was told I drew like a senior within my first month in college. I am currently producing art pieces to enter into art galleries and sell prints online.
