I have had many successful students in my 10 years teaching saxophone! I always gear lessons toward the individual student's musical goals and interests and I am constantly reinforcing good technique and practice habits. My favorite genre to teach is jazz, but I can help you with classical and pop music, too!
About Michael H.

I have been performing and teaching music professionally for 10 years in a variety of settings. I received my bachelor's degree in music education and jazz studies from Western Michigan University and my master's in jazz studies from Temple University in Philadelphia. My passion is jazz saxophone, and I have also played flute and clarinet in classical ensembles and theatre productions like West Side Story, Footloose and Shrek the Musical. I compose and arrange music for my own bands, and I have played pop/rock concerts as well. I am confident that I am prepared to guide you toward any style of music you could want to learn. I can't wait to work with you!

Michael is awesome. Besides sounding amazing, he's also very communicative and supportive/encouraging. He shared a ton of resources and adjusted lesson plans according to my level, meeting me where I'm at. I won't hesitate to recommend him to anyone who's looking for a reliable, professional, and positive instructor to get to that next level in your playing!

Mike was my 1st sax teacher and he couched me well. I can now play my sax with ease.

I was a complete beginner who bought a saxophone on a whim and had no idea how to even hold it. Michael was patient and such a great teacher that within a few lessons I'm now able to play notes and simple tunes! He's very knowledgeable and is willing to work with you to achieve YOUR goals. I look forward to my lessons with him because I always leave with a new skill or a new insight. Thank YOU Michael!
