Oboe with Lindsey S.

I am Lindsey, a professional freelance Oboe/ English Horn playing in Boston MA. I have been playing oboe for 19 years, in which time I have won numerous solo competitions, studied with world-renowned oboists, and performed internationally. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the Boston Conservatory for my Bachelor's, Master's, and Graduate Performance Diploma degrees and received several scholarships based on performance and academic achievement. Trained in many styles, most of my work consists of opera orchestra and Baroque performance. I am huge enthusiast for music history, especially regarding the oboe, and love to explore music written for my instruments skill set. Along with playing, I also hand make all of my own oboe and English horn reeds. As a professional oboist, this allows me to have absolute control over the resistance, articulation, intonation, and color of my playing. I also make custom reeds to sell to students of any age and skill level. Although the oboe can be a difficult instrument at times, I always found joy each and every time I picked up my instrument to play and I hope to pass along this enthusiasm to my students. I believe in building a solid foundation through long tones, scales and etudes to build endurance and train the ears to recognize intonation and intervals. At the same time, lyrical solo works helps support the students musicality and phrasing. I believe a healthy balance of both will put any student on the right path toward progress, while also building confidence and enthusiasm.
