I absolutely love teaching music and believe it one of the most powerful tools of expression. I have extensive experience with the music industry i.e. booking tours, working with publicists, auditioning and more. I am a current Berklee College of Music student, and among many others, went through their audition which is process which is one of the most difficult and rigorous. I am a mandolinist, guitairst, pianist, vocalist and songwriter, and have extensive knowledge of music theory, ear training, jazz, funk, brazilian choro, pop, blues, contemporary bluegrass, folk and classical music. I have worked as an assistant teacher for elementary and middle school students and at Berklee’s Global String Intensive, developed a curriculum and taught private lessons on my own, my major at Berklee is Professional Music with focuses in Music Education and Songwriting and I currently run the Berklee Mandolin Orchestra. In addition I have written, crowd funded and recorded two records of my own ...

I'm a singer/actress/dancer and I started teaching because it brings me great joy to help students -- quite literally -- find their voices! I teach the pop, broadway, and classical techniques and place a large emphasis on musicality.

Typically in a lesson, I'll start off with technique warm-ups, and then we'll work on a song of your choice. Even if you have no plans to perform the song any time soon, I've come to understand that working on pure technique alone will only get you so far - in order to sing well, you must first... sing!

We can work on the same song for as long as there are improvements to be made and lessons to be learned. On that note, I am by no means a pianist... I play a bit, but don't usually do so during voice lessons. I prefer to focus on YOU and not the piano with which I might've tried to accompany you :)

I hope to be singing with you soon!

About Shira

Music is my whole life :) I'm a singer, songwriter, actress, dancer... and voice teacher, of course. I've tutored kids in a variety of school subjects, but singing is my favorite thing to teach! I love seeing the growth in students as they gain a better understanding of their voice and find the t

Do Singers Need Metronomes?

As a vocalist, should you practice singing with a metronome at your side? Read on for St. Augustine, FL teacher Heather L.'s advice...    Metronomes are devices that produce sounds in regular, pre-chosen rhythms. Many years ago, the only metronomes were simple gadgets. Though the first one that's even similar to what we now think of as a "modern" metronome was invented in the 19th century, the kind that most adults are familiar with is a mechanical, wind-up metronome. It makes a so …
