Colton is a Certified Music Teacher. Want to learn piano but not sure where you want to start? Want to learn not just beautiful classics but rockin' blues riffs and jazz improvisation as well? I've played piano for over twenty years now in almost every setting imaginable: classical concerts, jam bands, vocal accompaniment. Or perhaps you'd like to learn low brass? Maybe you want to rip out some licks on a tuba, trombone, or euphonium? I started with euphonium in 6th grade fifteen years ago and have since played low brass in both classical ensembles and a gigging New Orleans brass band, and I can certainly develop these skill sets for you as well. Maybe you want to delve into the electronic world of sound recording, session engineering, and music post-production. Using Pro Tools, Logic Pro X and Ableton live, I can teach you mixing, correct recording techniques for any instrument, and general mastering. This is a particular favorite of mine! On top of any or all of these things, I'll teach you excellent music theory in order to put the whole sandwich together! I can teach you everything you need to start out or develop as an awesome musician who will be able to perform in front of any crowd (or just for themselves), and I look forward to the adventures we'll have. *** Lesson Details *** I would say a student starting with me can expect a mixture of somewhat-strict, high expectations while at the same time making time for goofiness and fun (fun is what music is all about) We will go places with your music you didn't know existed, and you'll be blown away after merely a few lessons with how far you've already progressed! After 3 to 6 months with me as a beginner, you will have a solid understanding of the rudiments of your instrument (piano, tuba, etc.) as well as a grip on the beginnings of music theory, and various other things you may want to focus on. *** Studio Equipment *** Music studio with piano/keyboards, guitars, and seating for parents. Brass lessons will take place in the parlor, with more room and a higher ceiling for the sounds to reverberate more clearly. *** Travel Equipment *** I will provide my instrument, curriculum, metronome and tuner, and extra staff paper and writing utensils for notes. Student will provide their instrument and any assigned curriculum. *** Specialties *** Jazz, Improvisation, Electronic music, Sound engineering and recording. Rare brass techniques-- extreme pedal tones, high ranges, multiphonics, etc.

Professional, fun, well-worth-it Colton has provided excellent Tuba lessons for my 6th grader playing music for the first time. He is responsive to student needs and moves at a just right pace. He is friendly and fun. He addresses what my son is needing to practice for school and then takes it to the next level. He covers not only the skills for playing the tuba but also etiquette of instrument care, being in an ensemble, and music theory. He's easy to schedule with. Highly recommended.

Expect great things with Colton Colton is passionate about music and you can see that right away after 5 minutes of talking to him. He is incredibly talented and my emotions during the lesson range from intimidation, respect, to excitement and motivation. Colton should be found teaching at a university sharing coffee with tweed covered professors leading hoards of students to musical enlightenment. His excitement for music is contagious and I leave the lesson feeling recharged for my practices and ready to take on new projects. He has a way of demanding the best of you and having a good time altogether without you even noticing.
