Barbara is delightful! She knows her crochet and she is excellent at solving puzzles such as I had: manufacturing a piece of my existing pattern to fit along a ragged edge. Can't go wrong with Barbara1

I have a LOT of patience! All you need is the desire to learn to knit. If you never have knitted before, I will get you knitting. If you want to learn, but believe you can’t learn because someone told you can’t learn to knit, I will prove that you can knit. If you have knitted a long time ago, but forgot all of it or most of it, I will bring it back to you. If you already know the basics of knitting, but don’t know how to get beyond the simple knitted squares and rectangles, I can get you to the next level. If you know knitting basics, but gave up because you make a lot of mistakes, I will show you how to fix mistakes, so that mistakes don’t become traumatic. If you know the basics, but want to learn a different technique such as color work, cables, lace, or more, I can teach you. Do you have trouble reading patterns or charts, I can take the mystery out of them.

Because of COVID-19, I mostly teach online for now. If you are vaccinated, I will consider teaching in person within 6 ...

I believe that if you have the desire, then you can learn. The speed in which you learn may be different than the next person, but, that is o

Amy, I am so appreciative of your time with my daughter this summer to teach her how to crochet! I am in awe of how far she has come, and I love to see how proud she is of her new craft. Her room is filling with stuffies and she has made three different sized bags to tote her things to friends’ houses. Thank you for your patients and skillful teaching!

Clear, easy instruction and lots of patience. I love to teach others something new and bring them to a place of refreshing rest as they learn to create new and wonderful things. Adult Beginners and Intermediate levels are welcome. I will teach the basics for beginners - Cast on/off, knit/purl stitches, increasing/decreasing and we will finish with a project. Intermediates usually need help getting started again, finishing a project or help with a pattern, I will also teach you new stitch patterns to have fun with.

About Melisa

I believe knitting is a wonderful skill and a great, relaxing way to pass the time. Whether you are a beginner or a past knitter looking to review the basics, I would love to help! I do my best to adapt my teaching style to the student so that there is as little frustration as possible. Above all, I want my students to enjoy learning and give them a solid base to advance their skills.
I teach a few basic stitches and techniques such as:
- regular knit stitch
- purl stitch
- casting on
- casting off
- stockinette
- rib stitch

Almost any size needles and yarn should be fine.
I also recommend bamboo or wooden knitting needles (rather than metal) for first-time beginners but not a requirement. We will work with what you have. Most importantly, I hope you enjoy learning and develop an appreciation for the art of knitting. :)

"I had a wonderful time in my first lesson. Erin was extremely knowledgeable and also very friendly. She was able to turn her camera around so that I could see what she was doing really clearly, and she explained things in a way that was easy for me to understand. She was very patient with me, as I'm a slow knitter, and was able to tell when I made mistakes and helped me correct them. I would absolutely recommend Erin to anyone looking to get started, wanting to learn more complicated projects, and/or needing help with specific questions."

"We've had Dawn teach a variety of classes at the Simsbury Public Library (CT). Our most popular is the arm knitting class we open to Teens & Adults. Everyone gets to take home an infinity scarf and they all leave learning a new skill. Dawn works well with all ages, is patient, and really enthusiastic about teaching what she loves. We can't wait to have Dawn back to teach more classes this Fall!"

"Ok - this was incredible. I go in with a really wonky purl stitch and she was able to recognize what I was doing wrong! I thought I was knitting/purling continental style and she noticed it wasn't that at all - but Norwegian knitting/purling and got me on the right track. I would recommend her in a heartbeat, I have been to two other in person instructors with little success and she was able to fix my problem over zoom!"
