Guitar Lessons in Glendale

Becky S. - Guitar Teacher in Glendale

Burgeoning guitar players in Glendale can find inspiration in every direction. From the array of diverse small venues in Glendale, to the classic Los Angeles hotspots in nearby neighborhoods, there are tons of things to inspire you and your guitar playing.

Amoeba Amoeba in Hollywood is the music store to fulfill any audiophile's fantasy. This giant music store lures fans with its city block wide music selection and frequent in-store events. Get lost in the aisles of unexpected and familiar genres around the store and treat yourself to an unusual CD from the dollar bin - a perfectly fun option for music students who are just getting started with guitar lessons in Glendale. Their annual Mardi Gras "parade" particularly embodies the store's fun and silliness and should not be missed.

If you're in the mood to browse for music but aren't in the mood for an Amoeba-level wandering, Atomic Records in Burbank is a smaller, but just as mighty music shop even closer to Glendale.

For large scale tours and big name bands, The Hollywood Bowl, L.A. Live, The Wiltern, and The Greek (to name a few) are just a skip away. These power houses are must-stop venues for most North American tours. What’s a better way to get inspired after a few guitar lessons in Glendale then to watch the professionals take the stage?

Amphitheaters like The Hollywood Bowl and The Greek let you wave your (figurative) California flag high as you enjoy music in the open air.

If you're just in the mood for drooling over some truly beautiful guitars, Imperial Vintage Guitars in Burbank and Sherman Oaks offers plenty of eye candy. They also boast a repair shop, should you find yourself in need. Grayson's Tune Town is a guitar shop right in Glendale that does repairs and offers rental options if you are just getting to know the type of guitars you enjoy playing.

In Glendale, live music venues are everywhere. Watching local artists in small venues can really connect you in to your local musician network, as well as inspire you to keep practicing.

Left Coast Wine Bar & Gallery offers a cozy upstairs loft where intimate acts compliment the relaxed lounge. On Sundays, they have an open mic night, where you can get up on stage yourself. Open mic nights are a perfect way to show off that you have been taking guitar lessons in Glendale and keeping up with your practicing.

Complex is Glendale's finest gritty bar venue. This is the type of place where garage bands pay their dues and have a good time doing it.

Jax Bar & Grill is a must for local jazz lovers. Steamy acts are served up seven nights a week.

Though Glendale's local music venues lean in the direction of bars, a short trip to North Hollywood's Republic of Pie offers a classic coffee shop venue for music lovers of all ages. Here, all sorts of acts perform, and all go great with a cup of coffee or a slice of pie. Squashy couches and chairs make this a very comfortable place to enjoy music.

Now you know where to go, get out there and enjoy! The more you listen to and explore the things you love about music, the more proud you can be of all the steps you are taking to be a part of the music community! So what are you waiting for? Sign up for guitar lessons in Glendale now!

See you around town!

About Edwin
Hello! Thank you for your interest in taking guitar/piano/music lessons.

I am a professional teacher/studio musician/performer/producer with over 17 years of private teaching experience and a graduate of the University of Miami Studio Music and Jazz program in 2002 specializing in the guitar.

I am available to teach guitar(acoustic, electric, classical) for all levels, ages, and styles(pop to folk, rock to soul, world to classical) in English, Spanish and Japanese.

Other subjects taught include bass guitar, piano/keyboard, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, harmonium, classical percussion, music theory, composition(all styles from pop to classical), ear training, and studio production/engineering/mixing.

Born in Cali, Colombia on April 1979, I began my musical endeavors studying the piano at the age of 6. Early on I had the opportunit
y to play percussion in the school symphony while at the same time developed an intense interest in the instrument that would become my true love, the guitar.

During 1996-98 I studied jazz guitar at the New World School of the Arts music program under the direction of J.B. Dyas and Dr. Roby George. Upon graduation, I was immediately accepted to the University of Miami jazz guitar program under the direction of Randall Dollahan. It was during this time that I also refined my skills as a classical guitarist and as a composer/arranger. In addition, I began passing my knowledge onto friends and eventually began working as a teacher.

My ability to play almost any genre of music is the fruit of past experience playing with an impressive variety of music groups, including jazz combos, symphony orchestras, Andean world music ensembles, and several rock and pop groups as well. As a studio guitarist I have recorded for various artists including Jaci Velasquez, Carlos Ponce, Alexandre Pires, and Noelia.

Every one of you is unique and there are many possible paths to reach your goals in music.

With my background and music industry experience, I am able to customize my lessons for you so that you can reach your desired goals. We will take some time to find out where your passion lies in music and I will use my experience and knowledge to create a customized lesson-plan that will allow us to focus on reaching your desired goals and at the same time maintain a well rounded music education.

I find this to be key in making the lessons and your practice sessions very enjoyable, fun and laid back - knowing that everything we practice, play and talk about is in line with your goals as a student.

I will also be playing along with you and demonstrating everything that we're working on - music is meant to be shared and played with others and it is important to have that experience of interaction from early on in your lessons.

So whether it's learning to accompany yourself or others, write songs, read music, understand harmony, solo, or just jam out to your favorite songs, you will be well on your way to reaching your goals within 6 months of my lessons.

Look forward to making music with you!

I teach Rock, jazz, reading and improving! Electric and Acoustic. I lay along with my students and make sure they have fun!

About Mike
I have taught private guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons since the late 70s in Salt Lake City, where I majored in jazz guitar performance, and since 1980 in Los Angeles. I make the lessons fun. Some of my students have received college scholarships and won cash prizes for music contests. All of them had fun while learning and improving on their instruments.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very enthusiastic and can teach students how to read. If they do not want to read music, they can learn to play by ear. I can also show them where to put their fingers. During piano lessons, I often accompany students on guitar and suggest a scale for improvisation, so they can play the blues. During drum lessons, I often play bass so they can learn to groove.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They should have their own instrument and a music stand.

*** Spec
ialties ***
I specialize in jazz improvisation on piano and guitar.
I also teach recreational guitar and piano for adults, including classical and blues styles.
I coach bass players and drummers in playing stylistically correct grooves for jazz, rock and latin music.

I've been playing guitar for over 12 years. I've been writing my own music and learning cover songs during this time, as well as learning several different methods for learning the instrument itself. Our lessons would involved a combination of these elements.

About Matthew
Music has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old, when my father would record my brother and I singing. I always loved singing and learned many of my favorite songs as a child.

I started playing the trumpet in the 4th grade, which has led me all the way to receiving my degrees in Trumpet Performance and Music Education! I was lucky enough to attend one of the nation's top music schools, The Peabody Institute, and I now work toward my Master's degree at California State University, Long Beach. I have enjoyed performing in everything from big-band-lead to principal trumpet in the orchestra, leading brass quintets and brass ensembles, and much more! The trumpet has been a huge passion for as long as I can remember now!

While I was learning songs as a child, I decided I wanted to join a band! Now here we are 10 years later and
I've have the fortune of performing as a lead singer in bands across the country, and let me tell you there is no bigger thrill than getting in-front of a crowd full of cheering fans, performing music you love.

I've also been playing the guitar for just under 10 years. Playing the guitar has been both a complete joy, but also a fantastic learning experience. I have been learning songs of my favorite artists and even written my own material, and having the opportunity to immerse myself in my favorite music and create music of my own has taught me so much more about music and being a musician. I hope to impart this experience onto all of my students.

Whether it's trumpet, voice, or guitar, I love all things music and my #1 objective is to for my students to learn how it feels to experience what music REALLY has to offer, so to you reading this, let's make some noise!

*** Lesson Details ***
For starters, understand that you're going to have a blast! Within months of working together, I'll have you playing your favorite songs, or feeling prepared for that upcoming audition. I remember what it was like to have second thoughts about auditioning and performance, and I'll make sure those thoughts are a thing of the past for you!

During our lessons, I enjoy addressing the material you have to work on, whether in school or just for your own enjoyment. At the same time, I will present music and materials of my own, and I encourage you to do the same!

I have always enjoyed learning from my students as they have learned from myself, and I could only hope to express how rewarding it is when I see a student of mine progress from week to week and achieve their own goals.

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced player, you can be guaranteed we'll make steady progress and we will achieve your goals. Get ready to wow your friends and family!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Metronome
Post-it Notes
Music Stand(s)
Chairs
Computer/Internet
Keyboard
Guitar(s)

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would provide utilities including music stand, metronome, some external source of pitch.

I expect the student to bring any and all assigned music/material they wish to work on. The student will also begin the lesson prepared with basic necessities, including a pencil (please, no pens) and all music assigned from prior lesson (if this is a first-lesson, bring any/all music you currently have and/or are working on). Vocal students will bring a bottle of water. Trumpet students will have their own valve oil and mouthpiece (if not originally included with your horn).

*** Specialties ***
Trumpet methods include (not limited to) Arban's, Clarke, Sachs, Rubank, Getchell, Adam, Schlossberg, Colin, Bai Lin.

For instruments outside the trumpet, methods will address school curriculum, unless student has advanced beyond provided materials.

I strongly encourage students of voice, guitar, and piano to pick material of their choosing.

Classical and rock are the genres to which I am most attracted

Everyone has a different approach to learning guitar, and I want to help you find your own! Whether you are new to playing or you don't know what to learn next, I can help. Let's talk!

About Wayne
I was very fortunate to have some amazing musical education growing up, and I started playing piano when I was 3 years old. My mom, a piano teacher herself, taught me the fundamentals of music theory. Then, at the age of 6, my grandmother bought me a small acoustic guitar, and i’ve been playing ever since.

During my teenage years in Minnesota, I studied under two extraordinary guitarists; Craig Anderson and Mike Michael, at the Macphail Center for Music in Minneapolis. Since than, I have lived in several places and taught humans of all walks of life. I’ve sang with choirboys, played bass in funk bands, and made some amazing friends along the way.

You (or your little one) deserve more than just another instructor. Whether you’re looking for a full understanding of the rock-n-roll experience, songwriting tips, or some help learning a
Christmas song, I’m here for YOU!

The lessons that I took from Trey really enhanced my ability to play what I want to play, now rythum and some lead. Thank You Trey for guiding me and being patient while I had to re-learn better guitar habits.

About Eric
MUSIC!
I think music is the most beautiful thing in the world, so lets take time to learn and play music together.
I have been playing the drums for over sixteen years, and been in over fifteen bands in the course of that time. I have a degree in Music from the Berklee College of Music were I studied music theory and focused on Music Production and Engineering. I have been playing Piano, Bass, and Guitar for about ten years in addition to the drums, and have been recorded in sessions on each. I have a deep passion for synthesizers and electronic music, so lets make some bleeps and bloops together.

I am extremely kind, friendly, and funny so lessons with me are very relaxed and have an easy to learn environment. However I am very passionate about teaching to fit student needs; so if a student likes deadlines and homework, if that is w
hat will help them learn the best, then that is how I will teach.
Lets make some sweet music together!!

Hey there! My teaching career spans 10 years, from kids as young as 5 to adults in their 50s. I'm best with beginner/intermediate students looking to build their confidence on their 'instruments' - whether guitar, voice, or songwriting. It's most important that I get a feel for what *you* want to achieve from your lessons, thus I'm a flexible teacher - performing out, casual playing, professional writing, writing in your backyard, singing at parties, or singing behind the steering wheel. It's my job to provide you with the tools to sharpen your own, and bring other skills level with the areas in which you already dominate. As is the case for many (including myself as a kid), picking up an instrument often comes as the result of wanting to emulate another artist (my influences include Jason Mraz, John Mayer, and The Matrix songwriting team); this often translates to interest in the ability to play/write as early as possible. With this in mind, I've successfully promised my students ...

About Jake
Hey there! My name is Jake, and I'm a lifetime musician. I began playing guitar and taking lessons 18 years ago (at age 8), and writing songs at 5!... my grandma recalls asking me to play "number 5" on the piano, and I'd do as I was asked, right from memory. Guitar, songwriting, and singing have long been my deepest passions, and having the opportunity to help others explore their own creative abilities has always made me feel whole. My style as an artist is especially in line with the Jason Mrazs, Colbie Cailats, and Ed Sheerans of the world, while as a writer I lean towards the styles of Scott Harris and Geoff Warburton (Shawn Mendes). Looking forward to working with creatives and musicians of all types!

Guitar lessons should be fun! In my 15 years as a guitar player I've studied and taught a wide variety of styles and methods and gotten a very solid grasp of what works... and what doesn't. I want to meet you on your terms and get you playing the way you want, at whatever level you aspire to. Like music theory? We can go through that endlessly, I geek out on it in a major way. Don't like music theory? Say no more! We will shred like gods and cast away all notions of the written note. Particular specialties include learning to play by ear, improvising, technique, theory, etc. My range of styles include rock, blues, jazz, bluegrass, gypsy, disco, klezmer, shoegaze, polka, black metal, etc!! Can't wait to enter the tone zone with you.

About Noel
I'm an alum of Berklee College of Music, and in 15 years as a guitar student and instructor, it has become obvious to me that the most important thing is learning to play on your own terms. Play the music you like, sound the way you want, take it as seriously as you like, as long as you're having fun and feeling good you're doing it right. We can go deep into theory, technique, improvisation, ear training... or not. My only concern as a teacher is seeing you get closer to your idea of yourself as a player. My specialties include rock, blues, jazz, funk, etc. All ages and levels welcome!
