I've been a guitarist my whole life, and I've been a teacher the past 10 years. I have a passion for helping students like you learn what YOU want to learn, and creating a clear path to your goals. I have a Bachelors in music from Columbia College Chicago, a thriving arts school in the heart of downtown Chicago. I've toured extensively as a songwriter, and written and recorded dozens of albums with the Chicago band Minor Characters. I now live in Los Angeles. I've helped beginner and intermediate students along into forming their own bands, play open mics, recitals, or just for themselves. Let's talk about what you want to do and if this is a good fit!

I am so happy to have this opportunity to review Rodrigo Rodríguez. I have learned so much with him over the several years that I have been studying with him! He has totally transformed my guitar playing and has helped me to achieve my specific goals which are: To learn to play rhythmically with my right hand, to learn the fretboard better so that I can play more advanced songs, and to learn the repertoire of Spanish language music. He is so knowledgeable and talented! I have learned styles and songs from him from many different countries - Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Cuba, Colombia, and Mexico. In addition to all of that, he is a first rate human being who I feel fortunate to know! So, do yourself a favor and take lessons from him. He is a great teacher!

Rodrigo is a patient teacher who is a great musician. I have only had one lesson with him, but believe I will make good progress in learning the cajun accordion.

He takes time to explain everything and looking forward to the next lesson

Hi there and thanks for visiting! I have been playing guitar, singing, writing and producing music for the greater part of my life. My endeavor is to guide you to an understanding of one or many of these facets and give you the tools you need to become your own teacher as you continue down this path.

Below is a brief synopsis about the lessons I teach:

Guitar/Songwriting:
There will be very little music theory. I never needed much of it to write my own music, other than a few basic theories to get around successfully, so it’s not something we’ll spend a whole lot of time on. I have organized and constructed a course book to keep things lively and moving along efficiently. I call it NOTEbOOK. It’s also great refresher material to revisit in the future.

I teach basic guitar with accented professional appeal and rhythmic structure. My intention is to guide you to create your own original music using straightforward techniques. My goal, once we part ways, is for you to leave ...

About Lorin

I’ve been a writer and musician since I was a teenager, and have been teaching music lessons for over a decade. I began journaling at 15, mostly free-writing and poetry. This was my segway into guitar and songwriting. Over the years, piece by piece, I’ve gathered many angles to my myriad profession

Thank you so much Lorin for the remote classes!! You were amazing and I learned more from you than I did from my in-person teacher here in town. Thanks!!

I had a great experience learning song writing with Lorin. I would highly recommend his teaching services to anybody eager to learn music.
Rob
Lorin helped me hone my songwriting skills immensely, by not only teaching but collaborating with me when necessary. It was refreshing to find someone who put his teachings into practical learning, where I could see the outcomes become apparent. He’s a nice dude, and is experienced equally across his fields. He guided me to making intelligent choices for equipment purchases, both instruments and pro audio gear. We first met while he was living in New York, and boy has he traveled since. I think living in so many different states, and being that well journeyed has given him good cultural depth to his work. Check out some of his own collabs with singers and musicians from all over the world...that really says it all.

My teaching method is to ensure the student is genuinely enjoying what they are learning. I like to let them take the ropes and explain to me what they most want to learn, instead of me boring them with knowledge that they might not be interested in. Learning can be fun, and a lot of times progress is made faster when the subject engages the student’s interests. I can teach using both acoustic and electric guitar and I’m willing to help students with anything they desire to learn, from basic playing techniques to music theory and beyond. I also can teach any desired songs that students want to learn, from simple cowboy chord strumming, to Jimi Hendrix solos.

About Thomas

Hello, I’m Thomas and I have been playing music off and on for 10 years. I have learned the techniques of many different genres and styles of guitar playing. Guitar is my primary instrument, and I specifically enjoy playing Blues, Rock, Folk, and Country. I am currently enrolled at Berklee College

My tuition brings:

Personalized, well prepared, fun and practical lessons.

Continuation, each class builds on previously learned material.

Progress checks using memos taken during teaching.

My students know me for my patience, attention to detail, and positive reinforcement, but also equally for placing importance on the joy of learning.

I have been studying guitar privately for 27 years, have taught for 20 years and I am qualified to teach jazz/pop/rock guitar, improvisation, and theory. I graduated from the music performance program at Queensborough Community College. At Q.C.C. I was fortunate to receive formal training in ear training/ sight singing I-IV, music theory I-IV, convocation performance, performance juries, as well as receiving private lessons focused on jazz improvisation.

I majored in guitar performance concentrating on jazz improvisation but I also have been studying guitar privately for around 27 years with a strong emphasis on rock, blues, and pop.

Steve is teaching my son and we are both so happy with his teaching. My son is not a beginner and was looking for a teacher to help him take the next step on the guitar. They have been working on scales, intervals, improvisation, chords and more. I really appreciate how he gives my son clear instructions on what to review for the next class and then checks to make sure progress was made before moving on. Great teacher, highly recommend.

"Just had lesson number two with Lars. I've never played any instrument before and am having a great time. Lars is patient and encouraging when teaching. I'm having a blast and hope he finds as much enjoyment teaching as I do learning. Growing up in the 60's doesn't allow me much time to become proficient. There just aren't that many years left in me. I won't be playing any Freebird riffs anytime soon, but I'm pretty confident as I learn more with Lars I'll be able to play a few ditties around the fire pit. Looking for a good instructor, he's your guy!"

"If you want a teacher who spoon feeds to you, this is not the teacher for you. If you want to actually learn and get to a place where you can explore on your own, Maria is wonderful. I personally wasted years going to teachers who would teach me exactly how I wanted but I couldn't do anything outside of lessons because I was never taught the foundation. Maria helped catch me up and now our lessons have turned into something I didn't know they could be. I'm learning new techniques and it's fun to apply them to the music I love. She's a positive teacher, but still strict. You will learn a lot."

He is able to determine a student’s experience level and skill set, and teach at any level from beginner to advanced. One of the things that I appreciate very much from Greg is that he has helped me develop my own unique style. My playing and songwriting skills have improved dramatically. Much thanks to Greg. 5 Easy Songs for Kids to Play On Guitar

Are your kids looking for easy songs to play on guitar? Get them started with these great suggestions from guitar teacher Willy M.... That first guitar lesson is critical for establishing a love of playing in our students, but most of the time teachers approach the instrument as though we need to prepare the student for the worst. "It will be difficult... You have to put in a lot of practice... Your fingers will hurt, etc." These things only serve to discourage the student and the parent, who …
