I've been teaching guitar for over eight years. I've previously been a part of two bands during my formative years and recently have been a session guitar player for four upcoming indie rock, alternative, and R&B/Soul albums.
For children and beginners, I use the Mel Bay publication Children's Guitar Chord Book as well as Hal Leonard's Guitar Method series. I also apply basic music theory that includes learning the Circle of Fifths and basic reading of sheet music.

For intermediate guitar players, I utilize the Gibson's Learn and Master Guitar series to teach Power Chord Formation and Delivery, Fingerpicking, Pentatonic Scales, Reading Tabulature, and tackling some of classic rock and jazz's favorite tunes.

For guitar lessons at my studio, I leverage Guitar Pro to project and display tabs and play-alongs with ease. For in-home lessons, I use the software for select lessons as we begin song selection and play-alongs.

I can't wait to rock out with you as you find your inner ...

I teach all popular music styles including Blues, Rock, Jazz, Country, Bluegrass, Latin American Styles. I can teach you to read by notes and/or by chords based on your preferences and styles you choose to pursue. I like to give a solid foundation to all beginners learning to read music and basic music theory and as they progress I will concentrate more on elements that are more important for the style you prefer. I am flexible in my approach as I know the most important ingredient for a student's success in music is for the student to be motivated to play more by enjoying the lesson and the practice time. I'll work with you to make it learning fun!

I have been teaching guitar for 6 years. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I presently teach music at 3 schools (1 college) and only have a few lessons slots available. I look forward to working with you.

"Ryan teaches me a lot of good fundamentals and taught me chords I didn't even know existed. He is very nice and does not judge me even if I ask a stupid question.
He also teaches me how to play cool rifts and licks on my guitar and teaches rock songs that a lot of people from the 90's might know. He is great and I totally recommend him for anyone who is looking for a great guitar teacher!

If you are new to online lessons- they are amazing! Ryan shows up every week on time via Skype right into my living room from across the country! I don't have to get in the car and drive to lessons or wait. I usually get the dinner dishes done while my sons takes lessons- a major time saver for our busy family! RYAN is awesome! He is a great communicator with my son and with me as well. I receive weekly e-mails with material for lessons. Ryan is kind, encouraging and has really helped foster my son's love for guitar. I highly recommend him!

"I’ve been taking guitar lessons with Nick now for a few months and it’s been a terrific experience — cannot say enough good things. Each lesson builds on the last and Nick tailors them to my ability and musical interests mixing in enough music theory, which makes learning both productive and enjoyable. Most importantly I feel like I’m beginning to understand how music works and not just blindly memorizing patterns or scales. I considered online courses before choosing Nick, but there’s no substitution for one-to-one instruction. Nick’s feedback and instruction are invaluable.

I was a little concerned about trying to pick up guitar in my early 40s, but its been a rewarding experience so far and I’m looking forward to more lessons with Nick."

Guitar Lessons in Irvine, California

By Richard C. – Irvine Guitar Teacher

Guitar is one of the most popular instruments to play for a variety of reasons. First it’s polyphonic. That is to say, you can play single-note melodies or you can play harmony with chords to accompany another player, as well as your own voice. There is also a vast variety of styles to try, including fingerpicking, strumming, flamenco, or rocking out with tunes by your favorite pop stars. Trying to play different styles will enhance your listening experience when you hear others who have mastered particular styles on the guitar.

Thirdly, the guitar is also very portable. You can travel and take your guitar with you to other cities or just to a friend’s house down the street. They come in many sizes, and some are made specifically for

traveling.

Once a player has some proficiency on the instrument, there are numerous jam sessions and guitar hangouts available in Orange County to demonstrate the skills you have been learning during your guitar lessons in Irvine! The Bayside Restaurant has a Friday night jam session with some great players who pop in (http://www.baysiderestaurant.com/). If you’re not quite ready to jump in, there is much you can learn from watching, and you can always listen just for the sake of enjoyment!

The Association of Fingerstyle Guitarists hosts lots of listening and playing opportunities (http://www.meetup.com/Association-of-Fingerstyle-Guitarists/). Additionally, a local gentleman has put together an ongoing series of shows called the Lord of the Strings Concerts, with performances from world-renowned guitarists such as Laurence Juber, who played with Paul McCartney in Wings, finger-stylist great Martin Taylor, and many other fabulous talents. The shows are all in small venues, where every seat is a great one, and the ticket prices are amazingly affordable.

There is also an abundance of guitar shops in this area, giving players a wide selection of instruments. We have big-name stores like Guitar Center but also many small shops for those who like a less corporate type of shopping experience. Nearby, you have Jim’s Music Center, Guitar Shoppe of Laguna Beach, and The Guitar Doctor, just to name a few. Many offer repair service, guitar set-ups as well as custom-built guitars to your specifications. So, whether you want a used or new instrument or need extensive or minor repairs, you’re covered in and around Irvine, California.

Guitar players are notoriously self-conscious about their playing ability and frequently compare themselves to other players based on their skills and speed. But, the great equalizer when playing guitar is that no one can play the instrument like you. No one else touches the strings with the same weight and pressure of your touch on the fretboard. This makes no two guitarists quite the same. Similar to snowflakes, no two guitarists are alike. So, no matter where you are in the learning curve while taking guitar lessons in Irvine, you can rest assured that you are capable of creating your own unique sound on the instrument.
