Easy Songs to Sing that Boost Your Mood & Mental Health

Are you looking for a way to feel better while making music? Searching for some easy songs to sing that boost your sense of wellbeing? Want to get better at singing, and feel good in the process?

We sing in the shower, while walking or cooking; sometimes we hum and don’t even realize it.  Whatever the context or the moment, singing helps us to relax and improves our mood, thanks to the release of neurotransmitters and endorphins.

Research conducted by neuroscientists at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden (Vickhoff, 2013) has shown that choral singing stimulates neurobiological communication between humans, and has positive effects on the body, especially on the cardiovascular system.

Science has proven that music and singing have a strong influence on mood, and singing can help to ensure a positive mindset and an increase happiness levels and your sense of accomplishment.

DISCOVERING YOUR VOICE TYPE

Many people believe that in order to learn how to control their voice and master their singing technique, one must be “gifted”.

In reality, the greatest majority of us are born perfectly capable of singing in tune and enjoying ourselves while doing so. So whether you are self-taught or taking lessons, all you need to do is to practice often and intentionally.

Before you get your microphones (or shower-heads) ready, it’s ideal for you to learn about your voice type that can vary greatly depending on the length and shape of your vocal folds. It’s important to remember that your vocal range doesn’t in any way affect your ability to sing but it’s the best starting point for your practice.

Finding Out Your Voice Type is Easy:

  1. Using a piano (you can virtual ones online too), find middle C (C4)
  2. Go down the white keys and sing along until you reach your lower note. The one you can comfortably sing without croaking or feeling too breathy.
  3. Do the same with your highest note, by working your way up.
  4. Check where your range fits on this virtual piano https://www.apronus.com/music/flashpiano.htm

Soprano: C4 – C6

Mezzo Soprano: A3 – A5

Alto: F3 – F5

Tenor: C3 – C5

Baritone: G2 – G4

Bass: E2 – E5

Once you find the exact place your voice sits, you can implement a routine of vocal exercises to reach your highest potential!
