I remember having trouble myself with some prealgebra and algebra concepts in the 8th grade. With a little after school help from my teacher, I was back on track and did well. In high school, most of my classmates had to start with high school level algebra as freshmen. I tested out and was able to go straight to geometry.

Later in life, I was teaching these same skills to young and older adults who were studying to earn their GED. The math section of the GED is where most do poorly and I'm proud to say that over 50 of my GED prep students received their Maryland State High School Diplomas!

About Tyree P.

Thank you for viewing my profile and considering me as a tutor.

I look forward to the opportunity to share some of my knowledge with you or your child(ren).

A big believer in helping others, I believe in using my talents to help others achieve their goals. As a former athlete, my first teaching experiences were with swimming and basketball.

Majoring in Electronic Business at Towson University introduced me to classes and subjects that dealt greatly with today's global business market and how to communicate effectively and efficiently within this broad spectrum. While there I began an internship which has since turned into 16 years of professional web development experience.

After graduating, I accepted an opportunity to teach English at the Shanghai Finance University in Shanghai, China (Business English, Advanced Oral English, Writing). Along with constantly striving to keep the students interested and involved in the classroom, I used my time outside of the classroom to become proficient in Mandarin Chinese.

Upon returning from China, I taught GED preparation courses (Grammar, Writing, Reading Comprehension, Algebra, Geometry) and Mandarin Chinese. I also freelanced as a web developer. With my China/Chinese knowledge, I helped the Johns Hopkins University East Asian Studies Department launch 2 study abroad programs in China. I am now employed by the University of Maryland Medical System as an IT Project Manager.

I believe that my personality along with my varied experiences create a very rewarding learning experience. I'd consider my teaching style to be very hands on, but relaxed. However, do not be surprised that I expect serious effort from all my students!
