Stephen inspires. Stephen brings a beautifully deep understanding of music and performance that work together to inform his lessons on the tenor and bass trombones. If you are lucky enough to have him as a teacher, you will grow your talent and skill from a solid foundational base that has been culled and curated by Stephen from the rich history of the instrument. Also, it will also be understood that playing live in the moment is an integral part of his teaching process. He demonstrates an exercise or passage and then you will play it back to him for a critique. His attention to the details of how you are playing are priceless!

I've been around Stephen in the trombone community for over a decade and I can say, with full certainty, that I do not know a teacher more dedicated to pedagogy and providing the best possible information to their students. He has the flexibility to teach at any level and has to playing to back it up. The trombone community is lucky to have him.

I’ve taken multiple lessons with Dr. Whimple in addition to my primary teacher at university over the course of 2 years. He always pushes his students to be the best that they can be, and always provides a method get there. Dr. Whimples vast sum of knowledge leads to every lesson that I take with him never failing to give me an incredible new perspective, resources, and insight on aspects of my own playing informed by the top players in the craft. The handful of lessons that I have taken with him have been instrumental to my growth as a musician, and I would not like to think where I’d be without them.
