Hi, I'm Steve, a dual-degree graduate from Oberlin College and Conservatory in Ohio with a BM in Jazz Studies and a BA in English Lit. I spend most of my time performing and composing music on guitar, drums, and piano, specializing in a range of musical styles that include indie/alternative rock, traditional/modern jazz, funk & soul, samba/bossa nova. Generally speaking, I love song-writing and improvisation, and finding ways to combine the two.
I am classically trained, meaning I have a strong background in music theory, standard notation, ear training. I also have studio experience, having recorded albums with several bands (Drama Section, Idol Hour, Native Eloquence, StaG), as well as tons of experience in home recording on Ableton and Pro Tools.
I've been making music on guitar and drums since I was ten years old in sunny Santa Monica, CA. On a typical weekend, you can find me cycling through Prospect Park, reading in a coffee shop, and making stir-fry at home.
