    About Spencer S.

I am a freelance cellist currently based in New York City, with a Master of Music in cello performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). In addition to teaching, I also focus on promoting and performing music by new and lesser-known composers. Previously, I graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in comparative literature, and worked as a software engineer for several years before deciding to pursue a graduate degree in music. My students can expect to make consistent progress in both the physical aspects of playing cello and the psychological aspects of growing as musicians: confidence, introspection, self-expression. I teach students of all ages and experience levels, but have had success with adult students (both beginners and returners), who often struggle to find accommodating teachers. I also have previous experience as a classroom teacher and academic tutor, so I am well-equipped to encourage and mentor younger students as well. I understand firsthand how difficult it is to integrate music into a well-balanced life, but I find it greatly rewarding and look forward to helping you do the same!
