Shimmy has been immersed in music dating back to his youngest moments in life. He began studying classical piano at the age of four and took up the guitar at the age of 10. Mostly self taught he was always interested in striving to obtain deeper knowledge in music. 
After high school he became invested in learning music theory and studying multiple musical styles such as Rock, R&B, Funk, Fusion, Blues, and Jazz. Shimmy received his degree as an honors student in Jazz Studies from Columbia College Chicago.

Shimmy is such a great teacher. He is very patient and extremely knowledgeable about music and guitar. I would definitely recommend him to anyone trying to learn guitar. He's seriously the best!!!!

Shimmy was/is an outstanding teacher. After jumping around from teacher to teacher, trying to find one with both knowledge of the craft but also familiar with the direction music is going, Shimmy gave me the confidence to continue playing and pursue my own musical goals. I reach out to him every few weeks to catch up and fill him in on what I'm doing (since I no longer live in Chicago), and he always makes time out of his busy schedule to do so. I could not have asked for a better teacher to kickstart my musical journey. I never hesitate to recommend him!!!

Shimmy is fantastic with my girls, ages 7 and 9 (started at 6 and 8). He incorporates learning how to read music and music theory, as well as memorizing music and learning to play by ear. He keeps the lessons fun and the girls engaged. He is always on-time and courteous!

I was nervous getting a teacher because I didn't really know where to start, especially because I had been playing by myself for a few years already. Shimmy took the time to see where my skill set was, what I wanted to do with my playing, and truly gave me individualized lessons for a while. I would highly recommend him. Worth every penny.

Shimmy is an excellent instructor who is wonderful with children of all ages. He has been providing piano instructions for our 9 year old daughter since last October. We highly recommend him.

Shimmy is a master. His approach to guitar in simple terms is amazing. His feel for music and his logical approach to guitar playing make him a fantastic teacher. 
When I started with shimmy I only knew one scale shape and didn't really know what to do with it. Over time, with Shimmy's guidance, I built a basic library of music theory and learned how to apply it to the music I was playing. After about a year of lessons I am now a completely different player.
