Andrew Mines began studying classical guitar as a senior in high school. Shortly afterwards he received a scholarship to the Hodgson School of Music at the University of Georgia. During his time there he won Georgia Music Educators Association Guitar competition three years in a row. He also received the Director's Excellence Award 3 years in a row and graduated with honors. In addition to performing in master classes for international competition winners and Grammy winning artists, he also appeared as a soloist with the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra.
After graduating, Andrew was part of the inaugural Guitar Program at the Eastern Music Festival. He won the college division of the EMF Guitar Competition.
In May 2018, Andrew completed his Masters degree on scholarship at the Manhattan School of Music with David Leisner, and has also received academic honors.
While still a student, he performed on guitar and drums in the Off-Broadway musical Lonesome Traveller, performing alongside Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul, and Mary.
