I get it. Whether it was a concert, a video, or a school friend who just started violin, your little one started begging for the instrument. Now it's been weeks, and what you thought was a passing fancy hasn't gone away. I was that five-year-old. My heart was set on one day playing the violin. It took months, in my case, but that Christmas my parents gave me the 1/8th sized instrument that changed my life. I had no idea what I was in for. Whether impatiently watching my 15-minute practice time creep by at six, stubbornly practicing that tricky phrase again at nine, shakily performing in front of judges at ten, learning teamwork through orchestra at fifteen, or pouring my aching heart into Bloch's Nigun at seventeen, the violin experience has taught me invaluable lessons and brought me overwhelming joy. I love passing on that experience and skill to other young learners. I began ear training at six, and classical technique at eight. Living overseas for five years, I passed ABRSM Grades 1-8 by age thirteen. At fourteen, I joined a youth symphony, leading as first chair by seventeen. I continued studying violin through college and afterwards, even as I began teaching my own lessons ten years ago. I have been blessed with teachers from both Julliard School of Music and Moscow Conservatory, and I pattern my lessons after the high quality instruction I received.
