I found Zach through 'take lessons' after my daughter had a few years with an intense classical pianist. I want my daughter to have fun and appreciate music and not feel the intense pressure she was feeling with our previous instructor. Zach was the perfect choice. My daughter loves her lessons. Zach does take time off for his professional endevors. Good for him. He has always let us know and connected with us when he returns.

About Yasmin
I studied classical piano and theory with Sr. Cecile Amore, jazz theory and mellophone with be-bop saxophonist John Mastroianni, jazz piano with Noreen Grey, and jazz history with the late Bill Finegan- big-band leader and acclaimed arranger for Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller.

I enjoy playing classical music (primarily Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin) tango, and pop songs as well. I have played keyboards and bass guitar professionally and enjoyed some commercial recognition in California when invited to open for a well known Bay Area band ("Foxboro Hot Tubs" a.k.a. "Green Day") at The Roxy and a handful of other west coast venues.

My music students are introduced to basic music theory, notation, and technique to enable them to play fun, simple melodies after the first lesson, and fun simple arrangements after the first month.
My stude
nts can expect lessons to suit their tastes and goals, whether they intend to pursue music formally, professionally, or for personal enjoyment.

*** Lesson Details ***
Expect this to be fun! All lessons will incorporate proper playing technique and elements of the most basic theory, no matter the style of music. If students can devote some time to practice every week, they will see results. If students practice daily, they may exceed their expectations!

With each new song or lesson to be learned, I walk you through each part so that your practice time alone is fruitful. I encourage students to tell me what they want to learn. Any arrangement, classical or pop, can be made accessible to any level.

*** Studio Equipment ***
In-Studio lessons take place in teacher's home or at Chanson Voice and Music Academy in St. Paul.

*** Specialties ***
Ear training, music notation & sight reading, music theory, tablature, lead sheets, solo and ensemble.
Classical training, for those so inclined!

Teaching others music education is my passion! Each lesson is tailored to the individual student based on his/her age, skill level, and musical interests. Students usually begin with a common course book such as Alfred or Faber series including studies in the following areas: Repertoire, Technic, Scales, Chords, Arpeggios, Theory, & Duets.

I took private lessons from age 5 through 18 and four years of college lessons from Dr. Suzanne Torkelson at Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa. I studied college level courses in piano literature, piano theory, and piano pedagogy and have seven years of teaching experience.

About Alex
I am an award-winning composer and have been passionate about music all my life. I've been playing in symphonies for over a decade, have been principal violist and a featured soloist, and performed as a session player on movie scores. I've taught violin and viola since 2008 and worked with students ages 4 to adult. I am certified in the Suzuki Method and also teach what is sometimes referred to as "traditional lessons."

You are never too old to begin learning music! I've worked with beginners of all ages.

Learning to play violin or viola is about so much more than just classical music and scales! Although we love scales. Especially played fast. In addition to solid fundamentals of technique and musicality, I teach a broad range of styles including classical, folk/fiddle, pop, movie and video game scores. You'll get to learn the musi
c that YOU want to play!

I also teach composition and music theory (which is beneficial skill set for performers and composers alike).

Please send me a message and let me know your musical goals. I'd love to work with you!

My daughter, Ada, was losing interest in her violin lessons and not making progress, so we signed her up to take lessons with Alex. This turned out to be the best decision that we could have made. Alex had excellent rapport with my daughter and was quickly finding important practice points for her to focus on. Even more important I was impressed with the multitude of solutions and exercises that Alex came up with to help my daughter get beyond her problem areas, and bad habits. On top of this, Ada was having fun, and was getting really motivated to practice. Alex’s attention to detail, excellent skill on the instrument, creativity with exercise ideas, and persistent yet friendly character were the perfect ingredients for a positive and productive music lesson experience. We would still be taking lessons with Alex if she still lived in our area for sure. (She is also an incredibly talented composer, which is a great thing for young musicians to learn about).

Alex is a truly gifted teacher. Teachers like her are rare especially when it comes to the arts. Not only does she make lessons fun but she also has the ability to put people at ease. Alex is also great at teaching those with learning differences. I Have extreme learning disabilities along with visual perceptual processing difficulties and thus have many blocks in place when it comes to learning things such as theory. No matter how long it takes me to understand something Alex is ever patient never giving up on me never getting frustrated with me. She has found many ways around many of the blocks that I have with theory. When I first began lessons with Alex I couldn't clap or count rhythm unless I had the main part. Since taking lessons with Alex I am now able to count rhythm better when I am not the main part. I would highly recommend Alex to anyone looking for a great teacher!

About Dayna
I am a life-long musician, performing with my vocalist mother from age 4 and studying piano and voice for all of my childhood. However, it all changed the day my 5th grade band teacher put a tuba on my shoulder. It was a match right from the start and, from that day forward, my life has revolved around school band. I earned my Bachelor of Music Education from South Dakota State University, marching with the Pride of the Dakotas for the 2000 Independence Day parade in Washington D.C. as well as in the 2003 Tournament of Roses Parade. Upon graduation I taught in rural South Dakota schools for 4 years before packing up and moving to Los Angeles, CA to pursue a career in songwriting. While composing is still a part of what I do as a musician, I missed teaching and took a position with a prestigious middle school music program in San Diego, C
A. I taught individual lessons, small ensembles, and jazz band there for 5 years, before packing up once again and heading for the Twin Cities where, with any luck, I'll once again have a full studio of amazing students!

I continuously perform, write, and play music and I love to tailor lessons toward the goals and interests of each student. I incorporate different styles and techniques that help students at any level be a greater success!

About Kismat
Born in June 25, 1990 in Kathmandu, Kismat D. Shrestha started playing drums at the age of 6 and there has been no looking back ever since. It all started with a small step but an enormous aspiration.
A big change came in Kismat’s playing and musicality after he joined the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory in 2008 where he was exposed to the best of jazz music.
Late in 2012, Kismat got an opportunity to get back to the genre he started off with. When Kismat got an offer to be a band member of “Albatross”, one of the most popular and influential rock groups in Nepal, Kismat wasted no time to grab this opportunity with both hands gleefully. Albatross in its decade long history has amassed a huge fan base in and outside Nepal with several of their songs firmly imprinted in the annals of Nepali rock music. With Albatross, Kismat has extensively
toured Australia (Sydney, Melbourne, Perth), the UK (London), India (Delhi, Silligudi), Bangladesh (Dhaka), the USA (Austin, Dallas, Houston, Boulder, San Francisco, Minneapolis, St. Cloud, Chicago, Boston, New York ) and played some of the biggest music festivals such as the South By South West (SXSW) in Austin, USA, South Asian Bands Festival in Delhi, South Asian RockFest in Dhaka to name a few.
Kismat endorses Vater drumstricks.
(Kismat was introduced to Vater sticks at an Ari Hoenig drum clinic in Nepal where Ari gave him a pair of his Sugar Maple Fusion sticks. Kismat has been an avid Vater player ever since! )
