About Matt M.

(1)
Matt M. was born in Lowell, Massachusetts and found an interest in music as soon as his mom started playing songs through her belly with headphones and a record player. He moved down to Austin, Texas at the age of three where he continued to experiment with toy pianos and banging pots and pans.
At ten years old he discovered an enthusiasm for guitar and saxophone. Picking up those instruments for a couple of years brought him to playing drum set, jamming with his brother and friends, and listening to all sorts of music. His experience advanced in High School as he enjoyed playing in the jazz band, performing at different venues, and catching concerts.
When he graduated from High School, Matt decided to pursue his devotion towards music and enrolled in The University of North Texas. While attending he developed his craft on saxophone, drums, guitar, and worked on his technique with clarinet, flute, and piano. He also played in various ensembles and lab bands under the direction of Jim Riggs, Stefan Karlsson, and John Murphy.
Receiving a Bachelor's in Music in 2009, he stuck around Denton for a few years where he played in a variety of projects such as Bubba Hernandez y Los Super Vatos, Warren Jackson Hearne and Le Leek Electrique (nominated for best group in The Dallas Observer), and gained more experience in teaching. He currently is living back in Austin where he teaches, works as a freelance musician, and is developing other projects.
*** Lesson Details ***
Students can expect an informative, laid back, and fun environment while taking lessons with me. Depending on their level of expertise I will go over the basics, give them technique exercises that will develop muscle memory, and use music theory references. After 3 months we will improve on sight reading, aural skills, and understanding how to apply music theory to all facets of music.
*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lessons are taught in the living room which includes a drum set, music stands, guitars (2), amp, and seating. No pets. Parking on the street.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my equipment and expect my students to have their own instruments.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in jazz, rock, blues, and classical music.
