    I have received training in double bass performance from the Colburn School in Los Angeles as well as the Juilliard School here in New York City. I also have experience teaching all levels of student, from someone first time ever holding the instrument to someone looking to pursue a career in double bass performance. I like to make sure that my students are always working on what they are interested in and enjoying the process of improving, so I will try to tailor your lessons to meet your needs and goals.

    About Mark L.

    MARK LILLIE, a native of Boulder, Colorado, completed his Bachelor of Music degree at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Peter Lloyd. He is now a second year Master of Music candidate at The Juilliard School, where he studies with Joseph Conyers. In the summer of 2017, he was a double bass fellow at Music Academy of the West, where he studied with Nico Abondolo. During his time there he was selected as a finalist for the New York Philharmonic Global Academy. For two summers Mr. Lillie attended the Aspen Music Festival and School where he studied with Timothy Pitts. The following two summers he attended Domaine Forget, virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic, where he worked with Paul Ellison, David Allen Moore, Scott Dixon and other renowned bass faculty. Mark Lillie began private studies of the double bass at age 13, studying with David Crowe and Paul Erhard, and has performed in masterclasses given by Timothy Pitts, Lawrence Wolfe, Alex Hanna and Ira Gold, among others. Mr. Lillie’s solo performance of Bottesini’s Concerto No. 2 for Double Bass earned him first prize in the Boulder High School Concerto Competition and runner-up in the Denver Young Artists Orchestra Concerto Competition. Mr. Lillie is a substitute musician for the New World Symphony as well as the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.
