    About Marisa B.

Hi! My name is Marisa B. I am a bass player by trade but I also play violin, viola, bass guitar, and I can teach beginning music theory. I really enjoy playing all the instruments I teach, however I am in school learning to play all 18 basic instruments in the music world! VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois is a great place to study music education and get yourself way more involved in music than you ever anticipated being. I sing in choir, I previously was in the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble, I am currently part of the Jazz Ensemble (holding down the rhythm section with my steady bass lines), and I am the bass section leader of the Philharmonic Orchestra. All of that aside, I really love teaching and I would love to work with you in any way it was needed to help you succeed. I want you to have fun, but I also know the value behind learning. I am always willing to answer questions, give advice, or just have conversations. I am pretty easy going as long as my students keep up with their practicing. If you have any questions, please contact TakeLessons and they will get them to me as soon as they can! Thank you so much! *** Lesson Details *** I like to use a combination of Essential Elements for Strings and for string bass I recommend purchasing the Simandl Method book one. For music theory, I don't have a book I recommend as I feel theory is a very verbal and aural learning experience. If you can do things out loud, it will help you learn it in your head. After 3-4 months, students should expect to be able to play all one octave major scales, read music efficiently enough to sight read new music, and understand the responsibilities behind learning and maintaining musical skills as well as have a little fun while they learn it! *** Studio Equipment *** Living room: music stands, chairs, additional seating for parents. *** Travel Equipment *** Unfortunately, I don't have funds to provide an instrument. But I would expect the student to provide the books at least and if they need the instrument I can bring my own. I also would be taking Chicago public transportation if I were to come to your home for a lesson. *** Specialties *** Classical and Jazz Bass
