Unlike many classical musicians, I did not start as a child. I didn’t begin playing clarinet until I was fifteen, so I could join my school’s band. I taught myself how to read music with flash cards and the basics of how to play by matching show music with a finger chart, note by note. Over time, I got the opportunity to learn from and study under others and refine my learning methods. Don’t slog through method books and flash cards like I did! Let me show you how I refined my fundamentals and built up to playing repertoire. Playing the clarinet is easy, it’s staying in the chair long enough to learn that’s difficult.
