Private Teacher
Aug, 2006 - PresentSelf-Employed
Although I specialize in double bass, I have over 10 years experience teaching violin, viola, cello, and bass. I am currently a private strings teacher in Austin, Pflugerville, and Georgetown schools, where I maintain a studio of students of all string instruments. I did similar work when I lived in Denton, Texas, teaching in the Plano and Frisco schools, as well as when I lived in Columbia, South Carolina, where I taught and trained in USC’s esteemed String Project. While in Denton, I worked as Jeff Bradetich's Teaching Fellow, maintaining a studio of college-aged musicians and conducting regular master classes at UNT. I have experience in several different styles of music, including classical, pop, jazz, and folk and I feel comfortable teaching these styles on all string instruments in levels ranging from beginner to advanced. I am widely recognized not only by my performance videos (Czardas by Vittorio Monti is a fan-favorite - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xnDHHFJMnU), but also my online video lessons on my own YouTube channel and my work with Geoff Chalmers’ Discover Double Bass. Below are a few examples of my teaching: Getting a Good Tone - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kjks9MCY1jU How to Play in Tune - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nqc2XQy9DA Phrasing With the Bow - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag5aEJPqR0o I have an established following on social media, with my YouTube channel grossing over 4,000 subscribers and almost 400,000 views (www.youtube.com/c/laurenpiercebass), my Facebook artist page with over 3,000 likes (www.facebook.com/LaurenPierceBass/), and my Twitter feed with over 15,000 followers (twitter.com/bassicallyfab). I have been given high compliments from the greatest double bassists in the business, including Edicson Ruiz, Catalin Rotaru, Jeffrey Bradetich, and Roman Patkolo. This year, I was given the high honor of being sponsored by Pirastro Strings Gmbh, the oldest and largest bowed string company in the world. I believe music should be fun, and the path to learning challenging and exciting. I push my students to strive for higher levels I know they can achieve. I focus on proper technique, developing a good ear, musicality, and efficient practicing. My teaching is customized for every individual student. I want to be able to help you get exactly what you want out of these lessons, while also making you a well-rounded and able musician.
