    About Josiah C.

Music has always played a big part in my life since the third grade when I joined an after-school program for a recorder choir. I decided to start learning the violin a couple years later but never imagined as a child that it would lead me to keep pursuing a college degree in music. It was at the start of college where I realized the power of the music of Bach Beethoven, Wagner, Prokofiev - just to list a few names. Music gives a voice to emotions and colors, leaving a unique opportunity of interpretation to the discretion of the artist. Bringing the joy of music alone is always my main goal for any of my students, and giving people the opportunity to express themselves comes secondary but is equally as important. I am currently finishing up my Studies and Sacramento State University in Violin Performance with Ian Swensen, Composition with Dr. Stephen Blumberg, and Violin Pedagogy with Judy Bossuat-Gallic and Tim Stanley. I am a certified teacher under the Suzuki Association of the Americas and have experience teaching all ages. *** Lesson Details *** Before beginning violin lessons, we will fit you for the right size violin, make sure you are set up comfortably (Correct shoulder rest and chin rest), and then go through the basics of position and posture. It is very important we understand correct position and posture because they will be the foundation upon everything we learn. I like to start my students off with the Suzuki method, but also like include various other types of teaching styles that are not necessarily included in the Suzuki Method philosophy. By Three months, my students should be able to play a variety of rhythms on variations of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and have a good concept of how to stand, hold the violin, and hold the bow correctly. By Six months, basic knowledge of music theory should be familiar and there should be a few more traditional folk songs learned and memorized, opening the doors to learn a variety of music in classical and eclectic styles. *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide supplementary music materials, and advice on what might be the correct instrument sizing for a student, and where they can rent or attain an instrument. I expect violin students to already have an instrument when lessons begin, along with a music stand, and the books which we will study from *** Specialties *** Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern, and Popular
