I have a PhD in Psychology, which informs my pedagogy. Joy and Pride: these emotional outcomes are more critical to my lessons than any music-making knowledge or technique. I don't produce slaves of music; I produce lovers of music. The Joy comes from being silly and joking around (I'm still searching for a PhD program in this expertise). The Pride comes from the one musical goal of each lesson: during each lesson, the student produces a completely original composition. At the end of the lesson, this composition is exported to iTunes and played for the attending parent. The composition comes together from several sessions of guided "playing around" on a keyboard. When I hear the student produce a great riff during these play sessions, I isolate the riff, and the riff is incorporated into the student's composition. You will be AMAZED at the quality of music students produce -- right away -- with my guidance. Once we connect, I will provide a portfolio of my students' music. Like I said, my PhD informs my pedagogical strategy. People habitually pursue activities that produce positive emotions. Thus, because my lessons consist of joking around and goal-achievement, my students learn to associate music with joy and pride. As a result, my students tend to develop a lifelong desire to make music.

Finally a hobby my son enjoys! I have tried everything to get him away from playing video games all the time to no avail. When he was done with his first lesson with John he was actually excited and wanted to book his next lesson. John was professional and extremely helpful and I can’t recommend him enough. Dr. PopRocks Rocks!
