Hello, I'm Jason. Wether your kid is interested in picking up the bass guitar or you are looking to brush yours off again, let me help you. I teach bass lessons both in my home studio in Fishtown and in the homes of students around the Philadelphia area. I am an audio engineer, producer and musician and I've been playing bass in various projects in Philadelphia since I moved here in 2006, primarily with my rock band, Busses. I specialize in rock and jazz but have performed in many other genres from folk to hip hop and polka to electronic. I studied bass with Jim Miller at Lebanon Valley College while completing degrees in music recording technology and music composition. Lessons focus on solid feel, music theory and technique. I love discovering new music with students and will help students learn songs but we will also take time to make sure you grasp what's happening musically. The bass player is the connection between the harmonic voices and the drums, a critical role. Join me on the quest for the perfect bass line!

I didn't actually take lessons from Jason, but him and I were in a band for a few years and he is one of the more talented musicians I've had the privilege of working with in my career. We discussed trading lessons (I play drums) a few times but unfortunately never had a chance to. I know Jason is a great teacher as he is a very knowledgeable player and is quite good at explaining his ideas. He is at a professional level in chart reading/interpretation, musicality, improvisation, and performance. He's versatile in all genres and a very easygoing person. This is the guy to take bass lessons from.

Full disclosure, I am a drummer and have not taken bass lessons from Jason. Nevertheless, I've been making music with Jason for 8 years and have learned so much from him. He is without a doubt one of the best musicians I've ever had the pleasure to play with. He has a very advanced musical vocabulary and technical skill set. He is incredibly adaptable and able to approach any given song with a wide range of styles and melodies. Most importantly, Jason's bass lines just always have great feel. He is always in command of the groove and super responsive to all other instrumentation. Last and certainly not least, Jason is articulate and patient, with no ego whatsoever. He's genuinely friendly and fun to be around. I can't imagine a better instructor to help learn the bass or brush up on existing skills. Total Pro!
