I have been teaching harp for over 10 years. I teach with a strong emphasis in technique, employing mostly Salzedo styles with a few French styles in hand and arm position.

I have a series of books from which I teach for all ages, all abilities. At any point I encourage the student to learn songs they like, creating an enriched atmosphere of learning.

I teach music theory, exercises, and sight-reading alongside our weekly studies of pieces and songs. I will help you find the right materials so you can enjoy your lessons!

It is my goal to have students perform pieces with comfort, strength and for memory.

My teaching philosophy is to cultivate a love for music while learning the best way to approach the instrument and learning how to play well. Like any good goal, hard work and patience are needed, but ultimately love and the pursuit of making music.

About Elizabeth L.

Elizabeth L. has studied music from the age of six. At nine, she began taking harp lessons with Elizabeth Motter, formerly of the Illinois Symphony and currently of the Cincinnati Symphony.

Elizabeth spent many summers furthering her studies at various harp camps around the world. In the summer of 1995, she attended Benslow harp camp in Benslow, England.

In the summer of 1996, she studied with Alice Spero Keene at the University of Illinois’ summer camp in Champaign-Urbana. In 1998, she attended the summer harp course at Indiana University where she studied with Susanne McDonald.

At the age of 14, Interlochen Arts Academy accepted her into their program for high school. Interlochen is a boarding arts high school in northern Michigan, which offers a college preparatory study with emphasis on any given art form. She studied harp with Joan Raeburn Holland for four years.

She attended and graduated from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri completing her Bachelor’s of Music in harp performance. She studied with Ayako Watanabe of the St. Louis Symphony. In May of 2016, Elizabeth graduated from the University of Central Florida with her Master's of Arts in Music, emphasis in Harp Performance.

Elizabeth performed with the St. Louis Youth Symphony from 2002-2006. She performed with Webster University Symphony from 2002-2006, and occasionally performed with the St. Louis Symphony. She has performed at the Frank Lloyd Wright house in Springfield, Illinois for over ten years, as well as Springfield, Illinois’ Muni. She has performed at the St. Louis Fox Theater for Norwegian singer Sissel. She plays for weddings, parties, receptions, restaurants, and teaches private harp lessons. She currently works for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Elizabeth has three CD's, two of which are available for purchase on iTunes.

I will make arrangements with the student/parent(s) to find the proper instrument and tools needed for the lessons.

Upright Piano
Lyon & Healy harp, style 100

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Classical and have branched out to Popular, Jazz, Broadway Musicals and Celtic music. I sub in several orchestras around central Florida, play weddings and background gigs. I'm not sure if I caught Elizabeth at a bad time or if it was the perfect storm between both of our lives trying to coincide with each other, but my experience does not reflect the five star reviews here. After buying over $200 worth of lessons from her and having my first lesson with her, she informed me that she would be taking a whole month off in a few weeks to prepare for having her baby. I said this was not a deal breaker. We would have time to have a good bit of lessons before she took a break to have her baby. So I agreed that it was fine. When it comes close to time to have my next lesson, she then informed me that she would be starting her one month break early, and we then had no more time for any more lessons. Even with me and all of my family and friends thinking this was overall sort of odd and tacky to not give proper warning before choosing her as my teacher, I still decided to stick it out as I had already started with her. Fast forward again. I get another email that says she will be taking not a one month break, but a *three* month break. Again, I tried to be understanding with her situation as she had just had a baby, and I said it was fine. We would meet back after the three months.

Now that these three months had passed, my living situation had completely changed. I was out of college and had a full time job, with very odd and changing hours on top of that. After being so patient with her for over three months with her situation, I thought that she would reciprocate that patience with me. I asked if there was any way that instead of doing a weekly lesson we could do once a month because of my crazy schedule for all of my remaining credits. She flat out refused this and said that she only takes students who want to work with her frequently and punctually. The tune changed very quickly when I was the one with personal scheduling issues.

Even after this, I was annoyed, but it was fine. At least I could get a refund from her and get a new harp teacher that would work with me with the same patience that I would afford them. But lo and behold Elizabeth had still charged my credits for all of the lessons that had been scheduled during her three month break. And said that she was unable to help me with it. If I wanted to dispute it I could call the website.

After roughly twenty-five calls within the past week between my bank fraud division and the take lessons company, I am finally getting close to getting my partial refund back.

I'm not saying she is a bad teacher, and maybe her situation has improved since a few months after having her baby. But either way, I do think it is very strange that she asked me to afford her 3, months of leeway for her situation, and she would not budge whatsoever with my situation. So take that as you will when deciding if she is the harp teacher for you

I've been studying with Elizabeth for a few weeks now and I couldn't be happier! She's patient and kind. As an adult beginner - I wasn't sure what to expect from an online lesson with someone. Elizabeth never make you feel silly or insecure about your abilities. I am absolutely loving this amazing instrument (and after 4 lessons - I upgraded to a full size Celtic harp). I absolutely credit Elizabeth's kind nature and her enthusiasm for teaching with fueling this new love of mine :)

Elizabeth has been thourough, encouraging, and super cool! She even helped me find a good rental harp (and delivered it) ,and is scoring rock songs for me. She keeps track of progress, sends music to practice, and gives good pointers on technique. I've been playing multiple instruments for 40 years, the harp is a challenge, and I'm so blessed to have found her as a teacher. If you are considering which teacher to go with, go with Elizabeth. You won't be disappointed!!!

My daughter Caitie very much enjoyed her harp lesson with Elizabeth last week. She usually detests “online lessons” primarily because the instructor has not spent enough time tailoring his or her didactic teaching methods to the specific limitations and practicalities of the computer camera and the internet transmission ability. I was actually shocked (happily) when she boasted how talented Elizabeth is in her online teaching abilities. She stated that “WOW! She is a true professional - she truly understands how to teach online by articulating and directing very clearly.”

Elizabeth is an amazing teacher! She was/is able to identify my learning style and meet me where I am musically. She keeps me challenged but successful in my endeavor. Elizabeth is VERY patient and kind and encouraging. I was hesitant about fulfilling my dream of playing the harp (as an adult learner), but am very excited about the progress I am making thanks to her. Elizabeth makes me believe in myself and my ability to learn to play and enjoy the harp!

Hello! I would like to know if this teacher can teach me. I have an eight string lily harp and am a beginner. Thanks! :) (You must know I have not had a lesson, but rated her 5 stars anyway, just asking a question)

As a family, we are delighted to recommend Miss Elizabeth G. as a musical instructor. Not only she is a very successful and accomplished professional musician playing on recognized stages with well renowned international stars, she has “the personal touch” to connect with kids and teach effectively her knowledge.

Miss Elizabeth explains clearly the musical concepts and is very supportive. She can identify the learning style of our daughter and adjusts to optimize her improvement constantly. Personally, our daughter connects very well with her and has develop a great admiration towards her as a role model.

Also, the music classes are giving our daughter more confidence to play in front of audiences and we recognize the improvement in that aspect of our daughter’s personality.

In summary, we are have been blessed to find an outstanding music professional to teach our daughter and we gladly recommend her.

I've been taking harp lessons from Elizabeth for 3 years. She helped me to rent a harp until I knew for sure it was going to be fun. It only took one lesson to know I'd love it. Elizabeth is very patient with me. She has helped me to master any problem that arises with great expertise.

She methodically introduces me to knew techniques so that I'm never overwhelmed.

She is always positive about every aspect of teaching. I would recommend her highly!
