For as long as I can remember, music has been a part of my life. I began dance and piano lessons by the age of three, and at 9 I began to study violin with Phyllis Freeman at Peabody Preparatory in Towson. In high school, I studied with Klara Berkovich, and in 1997 I began studies with Dr. Zoltan Szabo. I graduated from Towson University in 2002. After college I played in Irish, Bluegrass, folk and rock bands. I have been performing locally in an old timey jazz duo for ten years. I have been teaching for 6 years, and I absolutely love it. I try to develop a program individual to each student with challenging and fun material. *** Lesson Details *** Depending on the student's age, I use the Suzuki books and accompanying cd's. I encourage the child's family to listen to the songs that that their child is working on. For young students, we focus on repetition and ear training. I like to incorporate rhythm clapping games and other fun tricks to teach proper bow and instrument hold. For older students, we may start with Suzuki, depending on the student. I always supplement with other books that help the student focus on different technical aspects of their playing. I love to teach Irish and Bluegrass music too! *** Studio Equipment *** Lessons will happen on a studio which is downstairs. Seating available for parents. *** Specialties *** I use the Suzuki method, as well as other supplemental material. Students (depending on age) are assigned weekly scales, etudes, shifting exercises, double stop exercises, etc. I also like to teach bluegrass, blues, Irish, and popular pieces if the student is interested.
