With over 10 years of teaching experience, I specialize in working with students of all ages and abilities. Lessons incorporate music theory, technique, and lyrical expression. I look forward to helping you reach your goals! I hold a Master's Degree in Oboe Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach. During my studies I studied with Carolyn Hove and Humbert Lucarelli.
About Grace M.

Grace has extensive experience teaching private and group lessons, including lessons in Piano, English Horn and reed making. Her students have gone on to win scholarships and place in honor orchestras. Currently, her students hold the top spots in nTyme's (North Torrance Youth Musicians Ensemble) Chamber Orchestra, as well as Honor Bands and Youth Orchestra across the country. Locally, Grace has performed with the Dana Point Symphony, Symphony Irvine, as well as other groups around Southern California. Previously, she was a long time member of the Cheshire Symphony. I strive to make each lesson engaging, informative, and fun! Students are expected to practice in-between lessons and come to lessons prepared with their instrument and music. I also encourage students to bring any music that they're interested in learning to their lessons. **Every Other Week Lessons** Due to current lesson demand, I'm not able to accept new students interested in every other week lessons. The only exception will be if you are able to fill the off week of a current every other week student. Please contact me before booking lessons for a current list of available spots. Spots are available on a first come, first come basis, and are subject to change at any time. This applies to requests for both online and in-person lessons. **Group Lessons** I don't offer traditional group lessons, as I've found they slow down the progress of both students and therefore aren't cost effective. Arrangements can be made for back to back lessons instead. Please contact me before booking lessons. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have, and I can't wait to meet you!

I'm an "mature" student taking lessons many years after not playing and Grace is very kind and patient and helpful with her suggestions. I'm enjoying my lessons with her very much!

I like her mildness and patience. And her encouragement to push myself.

Great online lesson! I haven't played the oboe in 20 years. Prior to my first lesson with Grace, she provided contact info for a reputable oboe dealer as well as a source of reeds - so I would be ready to get started. During my first lesson, I played a few different oboes I had on trial from the oboe dealer. I played, and we discussed the pros and cons of each. Grace also suggested ways to improve my embouchure, as well as relaxation techniques for holding my instrument - to avoid fatigue. I was pleasantly surprised at how much ground we covered during the first lesson!

Phi Kappa Phi
May 2008
In 1897 at the University of Maine, ten senior students, two faculty members, and the school president created an honor society that was different from the few others then in existence-one that recognized and honored excellence in all academic disciplines. Under the leadership of undergraduate student Marcus L. Urann, the group formed the Lambda Sigma Eta Society, which was later renamed Phi Kappa Phi from the initial letters of the Greek words forming its adopted motto: Philosophìa Krateìto Photôn, "Let the love of learning rule humanity." Phi Kappa Phi's mission is "To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."
