I'm a multi-intrumentalist, songwriter, and singer. I've toured internationally performing my original music as well as playing multiple instruments in bands. I produce and record music that can be heard in film and television. I teach several instruments and genres of music and take your tastes and learning style into utmost consideration. I always begin with practical exercises to develop technique, then we can focus on playing the music you love.
To vocal students I teach exercises that develop technique and allows you to explore your voice. I will help you learn to make sounds you love. Singing is created by breath and muscles which we have full access to. Anyone can learn with proper focus, care and practice. I can also help you with recording and microphone technique as this is my area of expertise!
For violin, viola and cello students, I teach a combination the Suzuki Method (learning through ear training) and traditional theory and sight reading. We can also explore fiddling, blues and the foundations of jazz and rock improvisation if you're interested.
For guitar students, you can choose the songs you learn or let me recommend ones appropriate for your skill level. We can incorporate music theory, classical repertoire and sight reading into the process in degrees of your choosing. We can also explore singing while playing, songwriting and recording technique when you feel ready.
I also teach beginner piano, which I recommend for anyone who wants to better understand the mechanics of music. We learn basic classical compositions, exercises, theory, and any song you choose.
Who knows what creativity learning music will inspire? You may eventually write songs and want to explore recording them. Our lessons are held in a top of the line pro-tools recording studio where you can learn recording technique from me at any point.
I'm a classically trained violinist as well as a pop musician. I am currently playing in a chamber group, Hudson River Stings, and produce and perform electronic pop music. My musical training includes private lessons with some fantastic musicians such as Raz Kennedy, Jennifer Turner, Bob Corff and Matte Henderson, as well as Jazz and vocal studies at S.U.N.Y. New Paltz, San Francisco City College, and Los Angeles City College.
*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a laid back teacher who will give you a push when you need it! Music is joyful above all else and sometimes it's incredibly satisfying to work hard. We can talk candidly about your musical goals to determine how rigorously or casually we want to approach your lessons and practice schedule.
*** Studio Equipment ***
P.A. and vocal microphones, acoustic, electric and bass guitars, violin, cello, midi piano and pro-tools studio.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring my instrument and extra sheet music beyond the lesson books. I expect the student to have an instrument, metronome, and lesson book (Suzuki books and CD for violin, viola and cello, Hal Leonard for guitar and bass, James Bastien for piano. I provide sheet music and a practice CD for my voice students.)
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in combination lessons such as guitar and voice lessons with a focus on songwriting. I can also help violinists who wants to transfer their knowledge of theory to guitar or piano and vice versa. We can incorporate recording techniques into any lesson.

Erica was a great teacher! About 2 years ago, I took the first steps to learn guitar, and Erica was the perfect instructor. She is both encouraging and passionate about music and spreading the joy to others. I could not have asked for a better introduction into the world of guitar and music and she will work with you on whatever you are looking to do, whether it's songwriting, playing or just getting better. Totally recommend.
