I am a violist passionate about music education, currently teaching in Philadelphia. I taught group viola lessons at the Moorhead Summer Orchestra Camp in Minnesota (2014 and 2015) and I have taught private viola and violin lessons over the years to a variety of ages. I love to encourage the individuality that each player brings to their instrument at every level of ability. I tailor each lesson to the skills and goals of the individual, and I'm always open to ideas and styles the student wants to pursue. The greatest joy of teaching to me is seeing how each student responds to different ideas. I enjoy finding new ways to communicate clearly and directly to help my students improve quickly and express themselves effectively.
Violin and viola beginners can expect to learn a solid foundation of basic skills, including posture and music reading. In addition to traditional learning methods and ideas borrowed from the Suzuki system, I encourage beginners to improvise to become better acquainted with the sounds of a new instrument and the feel of creating music. This allows us to build good basic technique and musical style with a sense of exploration and fun. I currently teach from my studio in Center City Philadelphia, but I am willing to make exceptions and travel for students nearby, depending on the situation. l would love to hear from you if you have any comments or questions about what you might learn taking lessons with me.
I look forward to helping you to achieve your musical goals!
