My musical journey has led me through many genres: Folk, Rock, Blue grass, Musical theater, Cabaret, A Capella and Jazz. I have helped take many a vocalist from the level of simply wanting to sing to the stage. I am notable for arranging and guiding vocalists toward mastery of nearly any genre of song.
I have been a Vocal Instructor for adults at U.C. Berkeley Extension, a Choral Director for teenagers in the Oakland Youth Chorus and a Music Instructor for children at Walden School in Berkeley and Beacon Day School in Oakland, CA.
I have recorded three Jazz CDs: Mercy! Ellen R. Live released in 2006, On My Way To You released in 2001, and Don't Wait Too Long released in 2012. In addition to my own performance dates and recording projects, I am currently the Director of the Anything Goes Choruses in San Francisco and Oakland. These are community choruses for men and women that I started in 1980. I also teach Jazz vocal classes at The Jazz School and a beginning singing class for women called Swingshift Singers. I have worked with literally thousands of students throughout my life and I continue to be a dedicated to coaching my students.
