Teaching since:
September 1971

My musical journey has led me through many genres: Folk, Rock, Blue grass, Musical theater, Cabaret, A Capella and Jazz. I have helped take many a vocalist from the level of simply wanting to sing to the stage. I am notable for arranging and guiding vocalists toward mastery of nearly any genre of song.

I have been a Vocal Instructor for adults at U.C. Berkeley Extension, a Choral Director for teenagers in the Oakland Youth Chorus and a Music Instructor for children at Walden School in Berkeley and Beacon Day School in Oakland, CA.

I have recorded three Jazz CDs: Mercy! Ellen R. Live released in 2006, œOn My Way To You released in 2001, and Don'™t Wait Too Long released in 2012. In addition to my own performance dates and recording projects, I am currently the Director of the Anything Goes Choruses in San Francisco and Oakland. These are community choruses for men and women that I started in 1980. I also teach Jazz vocal classes at The Jazz School and a beginning singing class for women called Swingshift Singers. I have worked with literally thousands of students throughout my life and I continue to be a dedicated to coaching my students.
