I studied Composition at The University of the Arts and spend a large amount of my time as a professional songwriter and performer. My education and experience has taught me that the most important thing about learning music is to learn it in an interactive way; how to hear it and speak it. I try to focus my students on this idea and use their musical interests to motivate them. As a composer and songwriter I'm constantly involved with the creative process and am always encouraging my students to write their own music and to express themselves. *** Lesson Details *** I like to shape a curriculum around each student. Everyone has different talents and different desires, so I always gauge those two right from the start. The most important thing to me is that the students not just learn how to play an instrument, but how to be a musician, which includes understanding and conversing in a musical language. Students learn faster and better when they're interested in the subject, so I'll always allow the student to dictate some of the material based on their musical taste. *** Studio Equipment *** Amplifier: Fender Super Champ XD Guitars: Gibson Les Paul Classic, Gibson Hummingbird Pro *** Travel Equipment *** The students should have their own guitar and amplifier (if needed) *** Specialties *** I'm a particularly accomplished Acoustic Guitar player, but am versatile with electric and all kinds of styles including pop, folk, jazz, and rock.
